Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures: Season 1: Story 2: Yodas Mission

What is it ? : Kai, Lys and Nubs are training together against a droid, Kai drops his lightsaber and Nubs falls from a platform, so Kai attempts to grab both with the force, but cannot perform both tasks so drops Nubs. Master Zanna tells them they have a visitor, who turns out to be Yoda.
Yoda who has been watching advises Kai to help friends, as Lightsabers can be replaced, then tells them that the Jedi have been invited to a festival, and he needs the three to go on a special mission to get something very important to the festival.
They head off with Nash aboard her ship to an Aqualish who gives them several seeds, which seem unimportant, but they are being watched by Taborr.
When they return to the ship they receive a distress call so leave the seeds on the ship and rush off to the rescue. Only to discover when they arrive a hologram from Taborr informing them it was a distraction so he could steal the seeds which he thinks must be valuable.
Nash informs them that there is a pirate den nearby where she thinks Taborr will try to sell the seeds, so the three Jedi borrow her speeder bike and head off.
However Taborr has tried to sell the seeds to a Chagrian, who told him they were worthless, so he returns to his ship. The Jedi sneak aboard, but after retrieving the seeds they cause a noise and are spotted, Kai fights with Taborr, his lightsaber against Taborrs electrostaff, when Nash arrives in her ship and the other two leap towards it.
Nubs falls short, just as Kai loses his lightsaber, forcing him to make the decision to rescue his friend or lightsaber once again, and this time chooses his friend.
Returning to the festival, Yoda reveals the seeds grow rapidly into a plant which shoots off firework like effects, and Yoda and Kai speak, with Kai apologising for losing his lightsaber. Yoda tells him he made a selfless choice and gives him the training lightsaber he used as a Youngling telling him he will one day be a great Jedi. . . .

High Points : Again it's a bit preachy in it's message, but it's a good message for kids, that friends are more important than things. And Taborr's plan is at least reasonable, to lure the Young Jedi away to steal what he assumes is valuable, and he assumes it's valuable because it's being protected by Jedi.
I also really liked the pirate who Taborr approaches to sell the seeds, who thinks Taborr is cute, much to Taborrs chagrin, something which I think a lot of kids would empathise with him as I'm sure I remember being annoyed at not being taken seriously when I was young.

Low Points : Of course, why they couldn't just put the seeds in a pocket, rather than leaving them on the ship I don't know, but I suppose they thought they'd be safer there than taking them into danger.

So what do you really think ? : A fun enough episode, they're very short so not too much can happen. But I did like that it's giving us a glimpse at their training, and then gives us a little adventure. Some pretty nice worldbuilding going on. Or at least I hope is going on, as the characters being introduced feel like they might return in the future.

Final Words : I got the feeling that Yoda in this one was giving the three Young Jedi this mission to keep them out of the way where they wouldn't ruin the festival. Not giving them something completely useless to do, but putting them where they would do the least harm. But sadly the episode didn't elaborate on this.

Oh, and last review I mentioned that I felt that the Clone Wars and Order 66 was looming in these kids futures. Turns out it's a long way in their futures, as this is a High Republic era series, so we're hundred or more years away from the Clone Wars.
And this makes sense, as the High Republic era does have it's own style which this series does seem to match up to, looking quite different to Clone Wars and Rebels in style.

Score : 7/10
