Standard Issue New Republic Sidearm

With the arrival of the New Republic as the dominant political force in the
galaxy there needed to be a dominant military defense force to complement it.
For many years the New Republic grew much faster than the New Republic Army
or Navy, leaving many sectors only sparsely defended against rogue Imperials
and pirates alike. After the Black Fleet Crisis, roughly eleven years after
the death of Emperor Palpatine, the New Republic commissioned their own
private munitions company to cheaply and effectively design and manufacture
weaponry and supplies for their military.

The NR-1 sidearm was one of the first products to come out of New Republic
Munitions and was issued in large numbers to almost every officer and
enlisted in the New Republic Navy as well as select units in the Army and
Special Forces.

In designing the NR-1, New Republic Munitions looked at several widely
successful blaster models including the BlasTech DL-22 (the successor to
the widely famous DL-18) and the Merr-Sonn DD6 blaster pistols. The NR-1
was built using design concepts from both models and thus handles quite
similar to the weapons that many older officers used frequently during the
days of the Rebellion.
