Electrostatic Discharger Rifle

In keeping with Yoyodyne's tradition of interesting twists on
established weapon ideas, the z-5 is an attention-worthy innovation.
It is a stun weapon which fires a high-voltage charge of electrical
energy (with skeleton-jolting amps included as well) that looks like
'ball lightning.' It is extremely energy efficient, allowing it to
be recharged from any standard wall socket and saving the cost of
purchasing new power packs.

Yoyodyne designed the weapon to appeal to riot-control forces who
must strike a balance between effective 'stopping power' and preserving
the lives of those citizens who are a massed threat to public safety.
Its powerful but ultimately harmless stun damage has made it the
favorite rifle of several enforcement departments across multiple
sectors. The only thing keeping this from being a universally
prized police tool is its comparatively low rate of fire. This is
caused by the electrical resistance of some internal components,
which were designed with special caution to prevent the entire
charge of the weapon's battery from being released into the user
if the rifle is damaged. Such a release would certainly kill most
species instantly, and Yoyodyne usually places a high priority on
user safety. As produced, the finely made weapon is very reliable
and has never been reported to injure a shooter.
