Model: Translating vocoder
Scale: Character
Cost: 500
Availability: 2
Game Notes: Programmed with the owners language, this device translates the wearers spoken words into basic for ease of communication. Usually used by species such as Ithorians who lack the vocal structures for speaking in Basic, the wearer must still understand basic to comprehend what is spoken to him.

Description: A translating vocoder, also known as a voice-translator box, was a type of electronic translator used by members of species that could not speak Galactic Basic. The vocoder translated words from their native language to Galactic Basic.

Translating vocoders were used during New Republic Senate hearings in order to make sure that senators could understand what other species were stating.

Some, like the Gigoran Moroff and many Anomids, wore vocoder masks on a daily basis. Ithorian translators, worn by Ithorians on their backs, were another example of such device.
