Force Stasis

Control Difficulty: Difficult.
Alter Difficulty: Target's Control roll, Willpower or Difficult for fast moving objects such as blaster bolts.

Description: Force Stasis was an ability of the Force to forcibly restrain and immobilize people or to halt objects headed in a Force-user's direction, such as blaster bolts or fire.

Yoda used this power to freeze Asajj Ventress in place as she tried to kill King Katuunko.

Anakin Skywalker, known as Darth Vader during the days of the Empire, used this ability to freeze two Inquisitors; a female Inquisitor and a Twi'lek Inquisitor.

Kanan Jarrus used the Force to prevent Hera Syndulla from moving and running towards him, while also containing an explosion and subsequently saving her life.

During the attack on Tuanul, Kylo Ren utilized this ability to hold off a blaster bolt headed in his direction long enough for him to talk to Poe Dameron, and then released it after moving out of the way. Later, during the Battle of Takodana, Kylo Ren utilized this ability to capture Rey, shortly before forcing her to fall unconscious.

Neat, oys about time that this power has a write up. Though isn't this just an application of telekinesis? And since you mentioned this in the description, how hard would it be to containe an explosion?
My though damage+10 with it needing to be maintained each round. Or the difficulty increasing by +5 each round needing a new roll indicating the explosion is trying to expand.

Thanks for the write up!

Well with an RPG, if you can justify something then you can do it if the GM agrees, so yes, Telekinesis could have the same effect if you wanted. Wookieepedia listed this as a seperate power, so who am I to argue with their research, they put far more effort into it than me.

My preference would be for a roll each round to maintain, rather than it just being one roll. To show the struggle the Jedi has to hold back the explosion or energy blast. I wouldn't increase the difficulty each round (there's a chance of a fumble on the wild die, so it would remain a struggle).
Target number, as always GM's discretion, but the Damage rolled might be a good target number, (or might actually be a little high if you're stopping something like the Explosion Kanan held back (but then again he was probably burning Force Points and Character Points at the end)).

Indeed, if the rule of cool applies an attempt can certainly be allowed. Some of my players are into the game mechanics a bit so my thinking has had to change.

I could see the maintain roll working as well. Dice can vary wildly after all. I've seen 15 on 10d6 before.
With Kanan he did look like he was struggling.
Thanks for the response.
