Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Season 5 Episode 1: Revival

What is it ? : Darth Maul and his brother Savage Opress are raiding a space station, gathering funds to raise an army, after defeating the guard droids, Maul asserts the Rule of Two, and informs Opress they are not equal, he is the master and Opress the apprentice.
Later Obi-Wan and Adi Gallia arrive searching for Maul, and are told one of the droids overheard they planned to head to the Sertar Sector, and Obi-Wan realises they are going to try to hook up with the pirates in that Sector and that Hondo Ohnaka's pirates on Florrum are the most likely candidates.
Above Florrum Mual and Opress's ship emerges from Hyperspace and is boarded by some of Hondo's men, Maul convinces them to join him with the offer of the riches he's gathered aboard his ship, and they recruit the crews of a couple of other of Hondo's ships.
They threaten Hondo, who refuses to help the two laser sword wielding maniacs, and is organising the defence of his base when contacted by Obi-Wan. They arrange that Obi-Wan and Adi Gallia with take on the two Sith, while Hondo deals with his own men.
Obi-Wan and Adi Gallia fight with the Sith, and Gallia is soon killed, Obi-Wan grabs her lightsaber and continues the fight before being called into some tunnels by Hondo. They split, with Hondo ambushing his rebellious men, and bringing them back into his gang, while Obi-Wan fights the Sith and manages to sever Opress's arm. Maul grabs his injured brother, and they run for it with Obi-Wan and Hondo's forces chasing., and Maul suffers a wound as one of his cybernetic legs is blown off by blaster fire.
The brothers flee in their ship, but Hondo orders a missile fired at it as it attempts to escape, and it crashes, allowing Hondo to grab it's valuable cargo. Unknown to Hondo or Obi-Wan, the brothers have fled in an escape pod.
Back on Coruscant some time later, Palpatine orders that the Jedi not spend any more efforts chasing down the Sith brothers, that they should only be challenged when they re-appear.

High Points : Well, no wait this time, we're straight back into the main storyline instead of having to wait almost an entire season like list time.

Hondo: We're back with the amazing Hondo Ohnaka, and he doesn't disappoint. While Maul manages to lure his men away, Hondo can't be bullied, and he leads a well organised and planned defence of his base. Leading his rebelling men into an ambush and with a rousing speech turning them loyal once again, he even manages to profit out of the episode by capturing Mauls cargo. And he definitely gets the best lines of the episode,

Maul: Three of your captains have joined me already.

Hondo Ohnaka: Traitors, scum, I'm so proud, yet so ashamed.

Maul: There is a price to pay for disobedience (he kills one of the captains with his lightsaber).

Hondo Ohnaka: Let me warn you, you are not the first laser-sword wielding maniac I've had to deal with, and Hondo Ohnaka survives every time!

Low Points : The episode is enjoyable, while not reaching the absolutely highs that some previous ones have, my only criticism is that Palpatine seems a little unconcerned with how smashed the Rule of Two seems to be, with now four Sith operating at the same time, I would have thought he would have been only too happy to let the Jedi deal with these rule breakers.

So what do you really think ? : Great to see Hondo again, he's always welcome, and I almost didn't want Obi-Wan to be in the episode at all, I just wanted to see Hondo trick the Sith, or otherwise get rid of them without any Jedi help.

Final Words : Not a triumphant start to the series, but pretty enjoyable, let's see where it goes from here.

Score : 8/10

My box set had this episode after the droid 4 parter instead of the beginning of the season

They complain about the Jedi attacking in numbers? The Jedi can't even spell that word
