June/2019 UPDATES

30/June/2019 Posted by Freddy

A bunch of updates today, based on the subject of yesterdays review, Marvel Star Wars Issue 93: Catspaw. Today we've added, Durne & Minka to the Star Wars D/6 Characters Section, Saijo & Cantros 7 to the Star Wars D/6 Planets & Places Section, and Cantrosian to the Star Wars D/6 Species Section of the Site.
I've also been requested to go back to the 18th Episode of the 1st season of Clone Wars, and add the LaserWeb Defense Station to the site, which I've happily done. This is something which Hellstormer would normally do far better than me (he does custom rules way more skillfully than I do), but I've taken a stab at it, any comments please let me know, and maybe we can improve it together.

Top Five: Star Wars Games of the 1980s!

Hello and Welcome to this episode of RPGGamer Top 5s, and this time we'd like to take a look at the top 5 Star Wars Video games which came out in the 1980's.
While video gaming became absolutely massive in the 1980's, and the third movie in the original trilogy was released in 1983, you'd think there were loads of games released to take advantage of the name and licence. However this really wasn't the case, and we couldn't really remember that many games, so we ran to Wikipedia to check the release dates of the various games, and it turns out there was only a total of 8 different titles released bearing the official Star Wars licence. As it turned out that some of the games we'd thought were out in the 80's, like the classic trilogy on the NES, actually never came out until the early 90's.
The few games which did come out in the 1980's were released for a variety of formats, so we'll only be featuring one format, probably that the game is best known for being on, but possibly just the one we remember playing it on first.

A wee bunch of updates today, based on yesterdays review of, Marvel Star Wars Issue 91: Wookiee World. Today we've added Mallatobuck, Vargi (Wookiee Slaver), Attichitcuk (in old age) & Lumpawaroo (as a Child) to the Star Wars D/6 Characters Section, and Flame beetle to the Star Wars D/6 Creatures Section of the Site.
I can't believe I didn't add Itchy, Malla and Lumpy back at Christmas 2017 when I reviewed The Star Wars Holiday Special, guess I was in too much of a hurry to forget about it. It was an interesting problem to do Malla, since although she is basically a fairly harmless civilian, she is also a Wookiee, living on a world where almost everything is out to kill you, so she is still a fairly capable individual.

Retro RPG: Rolemaster

Rolemaster is a role-playing game published by Iron Crown Enterprises. Rolemaster has come in four separate editions. The third edition, first published in 1995, is also known as the Rolemaster Standard System (or RMSS for short).
Rolemaster is a fairly numbers-heavy game that also relies on the use of a lot of tables. Most notable are its notorious 'critical hit' charts, which are subdivided by damage type and describe various horrific wounds in graphic detail. If you're looking for a highly detailed and fairly complex system, Rolemaster has a great deal to recommend it. The rules are fairly well organised and very flexible, easily adaptable to a wide variety of situations. On the other hand, if you're not one for tables and calculations, it's probably not going to ring your bell.

Okay, taking time to go through my email this morning instead of doing a review, and a few requests I thought I'd catch up with.
Firstly, dating all the way back to Episode 20 of Season 4 of Clone Wars, it turns out I never detailed the members of the Krayt's Claw gang, so to remedy at least some of that, I've added Latts Razzi and C-21 Highsinger to the Star Wars D/6 Characters Section.
Going back even further, at the start of Season 4, the Multipart story set on the Mon Cal homeworld, well I never did the head of the Confederacy in that story, Riff Tamson which I've now remedied and added to the Star Wars D/6 Characters Section, and his species, Karkarodon, which is added to the Star Wars D/6 Races Section.
It was also pointed out to me that the version of Asajj Ventress (as of Clone Wars) on the site was from the 2003 Clone Wars series, not the more recent one. So I've updated her, and added her to the Star Wars D/6 Characters Section.
And finally I had a request for the Colicoid Creation Nest Scorpenek Annihilator Droid, which is mentioned in Star Wars guidebooks, but doesn't feature in any episodes or movies, but I've added it to the Star Wars D/6 Droids Section of the Site regardless.
I'm also in the middle of preparing my Top Five video for the week coming, which is going to be, Top Five 1980's Star Wars Video Games, which has involved me getting on emulators and playing old games . . . . life's so hard sometimes.

A bunch of additions to the site today based on the subject of yesterdays review of Marvel Star Wars Issue 83: Sweetheart Contract. Today we've added Danu, Dar, Harlech & Sarna to the Star Wars D/6 Characters Section, Glareshades to the Star Wars D/6 Equipment Section, and Drogheda Sky-sled to the Star Wars D/6 Vehicles Section of the Site.

I have to admit I've struggled to do the review and stats the past couple of days, suffering from a bit of burn out, which is perhaps understandable given that the site has had near daily updates for the past couple of years. I'll come to a natural break point in the Marvel stories in the next week or two, and plan to take a weeks break. Or if I can't find one, we're actually only a month and a bit from being at the end of the Marvel comics, so we'll see how that works out.

06/June/2019 Posted by Freddy

Okay, yesterdays review of Marvel Star Wars Issue 82: Diplomacy has proven fruitless for stats as the issue only really included characters and places that had already been covered.

So, today instead I've added the Hammerhead II-class heavy cruiser to the Star Wars D/6 Starships Section, and the Morgukai Warrior to the Star Wars D/6 Characters Section of the Site. Both requests by Vaughn Everlast, for his campaign he's starting up, to which I offer him every luck.

The Morgukai Warrior is based on a conversion from D20 by Xain Arke on Rancor Pit, however they were built on a conversion of the Nikto species from D20 as well. So I reworked it using the D6 stats for that species from Galaxy Guide 12: Aliens--Enemies and Allies to come up with what I've added today.
The Hammerhead II is a fanon ship, and I found two different sets of stats for them, one 750m long, and the other 450m. Given the Hammerhead Classitself is shorter than that depending on whether you're talking about the Sphyrna class at 315m, or the older Hammerhead Class at 160m, I went with the smaller, but far more heavily armed version at 450m.

Galactic Gazetteer

I made these two videos (and two others I'll post tomorrow) a few weeks ago, with the idea that I wanted to cover the more obscure Starfighters from the X-Wing games, and then move onto some of the established Fanon ships.
I'm not so sure I want to continue, but thought I'd post them anyway, let me know if you think this idea is worth continuing with?

Star Wars YT-Series Designer Video

After having received the Haynes YT-1300 manual for my birthday, I built an online tool to create your own YT series ships for Star Wars D6 and FFG. Here I quickly demonstrate it, and go over some of the designs people have made using it.

Just a single addition to the site today, based on the subject of yesterdays review, Marvel Star Wars Issue 81: Jawas of Doom, because most of this issue is heavily based on the movies. So today we've added Garrick to the Star Wars D/6 Characters Section of the Site.

Retro RPG: Big Eyes, Small Mouth (BESM)

Big Eyes, Small Mouth is a tabletop role-playing game that was designed to simulate the action of anime and manga. It is frequently referred to by the acronym BESM. The title alludes to the common anime drawing style of characters with huge, expressive eyes and comparatively small mouths.
The initial edition, designed by Mark C. MacKinnon, was released by Guardians of Order in 1997. Soon after that, RPG writer David L. Pulver began writing supplements for what was essentially a fairly simple game, adding a detailed system for the creation of mecha with his book Big Robots, Cool Starships. Skills were added with the next supplement, a genre book called Hot Rods & Gun Bunnies. At the same time MacKinnon and his colleagues were using BESM's system (now referred to as "the Tri-Stat System") as the basis for licensed games based on anime properties such as Sailor Moon, Dominion: Tank Police, Demon City Shinjuku and Tenchi Muyo! All of these innovations were incorporated into a second edition, which was released in 2001 to a very strong reception.
