May/2008 UPDATES

27/May/2008 Posted by Freddy

Well, I've finally gotten through all of the Star Wars D/6 contributions to the site, and have to start doing my own again. I was trying to get some of the other game sections sorted for use on the site (a hundred or so Buffy Stats to start off with), but found that they weren't formatted properly so ended up looking quite terrible, so I've added Kuat Drive Yards Revenge-Class Heavy Carrier from IMPs the Relentless to the Star Wars D/6 Starships Section to keep the site ticking over, and will try to get the other sections launched this week.

Great contributions by Joe St Laurent today, I've added some of his stuff under his handle of HK-47 before, but Joe wants to be credited under his real name. I apologise to him for this mistake, some of our contributors don't like their names used on the Internet, and I made the same assumption that Joe didn't. So, apologies for not previously giving you the credit you deserve, many thanks for the great work.
I've added the Sith Meditation Sphere to the Star Wars D/6 Starships Section and his amazing Allyan Magic to the Star Wars D/6 Force Powers Section.

In personal news, I rejected a job offer today even though it would have knocked an hour and a half travelling time off my day, mainly due to the fact that the interviewer wasn't polite. Odd that someone as rude as myself should be so hung up on manners to turn down a potential job (okay, they wanted an extra hours work each day, so the travelling time would actually be spent in the office instead, and the pay rise they offered was miniscule, so it wasn't just manners).
The situation was that during my research for the job, I discovered that their client web sites (for some internationally known brands) were totally open to a very simple hack (known as a SQL Insertion attack), I told them this during the interview, and then mailed them through a short report on the problem and full code for solving it. They never even bothered to mail me back a thanks, then left me for 26 days before letting me know about the result of the interview. This has left me somewhat aggreived, and wishing I'd never told them the full solution, so I could now crash their databases and wipe their data, but its all for the best I suppose, or I might have been writing this from behind bars :-).

Well another fantastic week for contributions, this time all from Alex Panzerkit who seems to be working overtime pumping out stats for Star Wars D/6. A lot of his stuff is based on WW2 era military equipment, which given the base for most of the Blasters in the original movies was from this era as well (Sterling Machine Guns as Stormtrooper Blaster Rifles, Mauser C96 pistols as Heavy Blaster Pistols, etc) seems an obvious thing to do, but something which had never occurred to me. Excellent work Alex, hope to see more of your brilliant stats soon.
Anyway, today I've added, Origin Spaceworks Raptor Superheavy Starfighter and KDY Baby Bird Parasite Starfighter to the Star Wars D/6 Starships section, and Merr-Sonn Lightning Strike Fishing Grenade Launcher, Rebel Grenade Conveyor, Merr-Sonn Farbang Blaster Grenade and Imperial Munitions HVCPA to the Star Wars D/6 Equipment/Weapons section.

Although I'm only updating once a week, the weeks seem to be shooting past so quickly, that I almost missed this weeks as it didn't seem that long since the last one.
I've added CEC Interceptor Frigate Type IV, Sienar Fleet Systems Twin Ion Engine Courier and Zann Consortium Vengeance-class frigate to the Star Wars D/6 Starships section. All of which are contributions by Frank Voigt of www.spiritspiders.com, many thanks to him as always, and apologies to the others who sent in stuff as contributions who I haven't gotten back to yet, I have no excuse except that deep down I'm a lazy sod. :)

Well, another month over, the first full month since the sites relaunch, and we've reversed the trend thats been occuring since January 2006 (our busiest ever month) and gained some visitors. We're up about 500 visitors on the month before, and actually had the busiest month since June 2007, which is a trend I'd like to see continue.
Although the improvements to the site are happening slower than I'd planned (I've still got very limited time), they are all still dropping into place, and the fantastic contributions to the site from Alex Panzerkit, HK-47, Weston Schreiber and Frank of SpiritSpiderS.com have helped me out greatly.
So thanks again to them, and thanks to everyone who has been stopping by, all I can say is, We're back, and we're doing our best to provide great stuff for Star Wars D/6 players in particular and all Gamers in general. Watch this space for more coming soon.
