Description: Lok was a barren and dusty pirate world in the Outer Rim Territories.
Description
Lok was a planet located in the Karthakk system, in the Karthakk sector of the Outer Rim Territories.
It was a harsh and inhospitable world. Jagged mountain ranges, long expanses of baked desert, desolate flats, dangerous sulfur pools and lava pits were commonly found on the planet. Lok was also the home of several hostile creatures, including the massive Kimogila.
History
Old Republic era
Lok was one of the first planets in the Karthakk system to be colonized. It was originally home to outlaws who saw the world as a potential staging ground for raids into the Mid Rim.
The pirate Nym lived on Lok as a child. He became a powerful warlord during years leading up to the Invasion of Naboo and founded a pirate group known as the Lok Revenants. They attacked ships coming and leaving the planet until the Trade Federation decided to invade the planet after one such pirate raid in 32 BBY.
The occupation of Lok lasted ten years. During that time, the Trade Federation used Nym's captured base as a staging ground for their raids in the Karthakk system. The Lok Revenants finally reclaimed Lok during the first days of the Clone Wars, in 22 BBY, thanks to the support of Jedi Master Adi Gallia and the Mere Resistance.
Imperial era
In the aftermath of the Trade Federation defeat in the Karthakk system, the Lok Revenants became the main power of Lok and Nym ruled the planet as a Pirate King. A city named Nym's Stronghold was built around Nym's old base and served as planetary spaceport for the entire planet. A space station was also built in Lok orbit to control starships wishing to land at the Nym's Stronghold spaceport.
During the Galactic Civil War, a swoop racing competition known as the Lok Marathon was held on the planet.
The Galactic Empire eventually claimed Lok and established a military presence on the planet. An outpost was built there, as part of a plan to extend Imperial control over less developed worlds. After the Battle of Yavin, this base was commanded by General Otto. However, although the planet was technically under Imperial control, Nym remained Lok's true ruler. Nym was more friendly with the Rebel Alliance than with the Empire but since General Otto did not try to interfere with the Lok Revenants, Nym decided to not defy the Empire directly.
In 1 ABY, Nym's droid factory on Lok was the site of a large battle between spacers affiliated with the Lok Revenants and IG-88's revolutionary droid army.
Post-Galactic Civil War
Around 137 ABY, Lok was home to a cantina called Brogar's Safe House and Cantina which served as a safe-house for various fugitives. It was there that Cade Skywalker captured gambler Naxy Screeger and Jedi Hosk Trey'lis.

Badlands
The Badlands were a desert region on the planet Lok.
Brogar's Safe House and Cantina
Brogar's Cantina and Safe House, also known as simply Brogar's, was a combination of a cantina and safe house operated by Brogar on the planet Lok. He provided his patrons with security that included bouncers, Z95 patrol guard droids, and at least one Gotal door attendant; he always had a door attendant monitoring the electronic eye and entry intercom.
In 137 ABY, following the Sith–Imperial War, the Bothan Jedi Hosk Trey'lis sought sanctuary and transportation there at the same time as Naxy Screeger, who had a bounty placed on him by the pirate Rav. Cade Skywalker, Deliah Blue, and Jariah Syn tracked Screeger there to capture him and collect the bounty. In the process, they spotted Trey'lis, who also had a bounty that applied to any Jedi, dead or alive.
Corsair Lane
The Corsair Lane was a region on the planet Lok.
Grendin Waste
The Grendin Waste was a desert region on the planet Lok.
Imperial Mine
An Imperial Mine had been established on the planet Lok by the Galactic Empire during the Galactic Civil War.
The Imperial mine was a underground mining facility located in a remote area of the planet Lok. It was a labor camp operated by the Galactic Empire where only worked prisonners. The mine was associated to a secret Imperial research facility on Lok. Hence, the minerals and gasses mined were used by the Empire at the research facility or sold for profit.
Because of a feud between General Otto, the commander of the Imperial garrison on Lok, and Imperial officers in charge of the mine and research facility, there was very little Imperial presence at the mine. In order to prevent General Otto from meddling in their affairs, these officers deployed battle droids and mercenaries to guard the mine and the research facility instead of requisitioning Otto's troops.
History
In 1 ABY, the miners hit a gas pocket and released a toxic gas in the mine. Since the air filtration system was rather cheap, it did not prevent the gas from infecting the miners. The gas did not physically injured the miners but affected their brain and eventually made them crazy and very aggressive.
During the incident, a group of miners avoided poison contamination and managed to find a starship that they used to flee the mine. However, the ship crashed before the miners were able to escape Lok, without any survivor. A short time later, the Lok Revenants, a criminal organization ruled by the pirate and warlord Nym, raided the hideout of the Sulfur Lake Pirates where they retrieved an Imperial droid memory module. This droid had been present in the ship that escaped the mine and its memory module was still intact despite the crash. The data module revealed the very situation in the mine to the criminals. Nym's chief engineer Jinkins then decided to obtain a sample of the gas released in the mine to study it and use it as a weapon if possible.
Jinkins thus tasked a group of spacers who had recently joined the Lok Revenants with retrieving a sample of toxic gas. The spacers therefore headed to the mine where they had to fight numerous mad and violent miners. Moreover, they were attacked by the Imperial droidekas that defended the facility. During the fight, the Revenants killed several miners of note, Raynar Cath and Wes Riggers, two enemies of Nym, as well as the Grand Foreman Rel Rogock and the mine controller Teemu Komo. In addition, they stole some crates of mined ore, and extracted DNA samples from the enraged miners in order to study the exact effect of the gas. One of the spacer also collected a sword in the mine. Finally, the spacers found the air filtration system of the mine and retrieved a sealed container of the poisonous gas pumped by the filter. They eventually delivered it to Jinkins.
Imperial Outpost
The Imperial Outpost on Lok was a massive stronghold established by the Galactic Empire as part of their plan to extend their control over less developed worlds.
History
After the Battle of Yavin, this outpost was commanded by General Otto. At some point, a mercenary warlord led a brutal assault on the outpost. General Otto managed to pushed back the attack and the warlord was captured, ending up in the Imperial Prison of Dathomir.
In 1 ABY, the Empire managed to capture a Rebel Corellian corvette and planed to use fill it with explosives and send it hurtling into Centerpoint Station in the Corellian system. The objective was to have the Rebel Alliance blamed for the attack. As the Rebels suspected General Otto might be supplying the explosives being used on the corvette, Master Sergeant Crowley therefore sent an agent to the Imperial outpost on Lok. The Rebel operative successfully retrieved data including the location of the stolen corvette.
Around the same time, the retired Imperial Naval Captain Boyrake was present in the outpost. Meanwhile, a spacer managed to infiltrate the base and stole a piece of shock trooper armor.
The same year, Han Solo tasked Rebel operatives to disrupt the Imperial outpost to show to the Empire that being on Lok is not an easy assignment. The Rebels infiltrated the base where they shut down the power generators and switched some Imperial banners for Rebel banners. They also attacked General Otto who barely survived the raid.
Kedarin Highlands
The Kedarin Highlands were a region on the planet Lok. It was used as a racetrack for the Lok Marathon.
Mosseru Hills
The Mosseru Hills were a hilly region on the planet Lok.
Mount Chaolt
Mount Chaolt was a massive volcano on the planet of Lok. The pirate Nym later renamed the volcano to Adi's Rest to honor his fellow Adi Gallia, the Jedi Master who fought with him during the Trade Federation invasion of Lok.
History
A cave inhabited by a crazy droid engineer during the Galactic Civil War was located in the hearth of the volcano. Contestants of the Lok Marathon had to race through the heights of the volcano.
After the Battle of Yavin, the smuggler Dak Vox had set up camp on the volcano in order to mine rocks containing deposits of raw cationic chemical coagulant. In 1 ABY, an Imperial operative under the orders of Colonel Veers assassinated the Rebel pilot Raphael Mar-Shayal on the slopes of Mount Chaolt. Around the same time, a smuggler shipped contraband to Edwyn who operated on Mount Chaolt.

The Nym Protectorate was a region on the planet Lok. Nym's Stronghold was located in this region.
Nym's Factory Compound
Nym's Factory Compound was building on Lok that was used by the pirate Nym to hide his treasure. In 1 ABY, the droid bounty hunter IG-88 began production of droids in the compound for its droid army, but its plans were soon foiled when it was defeated by a group of spacers in the Battle of Nym's Factory Compound.
Plains of Dust
The Plains of Dust were desert flatlands on the planet Lok.
Rancid Ridge

Secret Laboratory
A secret laboratory was owned by the scientist Derg Prantis on the planet Lok during the Galactic Civil War.
History
By the time of the Battle of Yavin, the Tatooinian biologist Derg Prantis obtained a sample of the dreadful Blackwing virus from an Imperial scientist. The Empire had secretly recruited a group of scientists on the planet Dathomir to turn the virus into a bioweapon. Prantis therefore built a secret laboratory on the remote planet Lok to conduct his own research on the virus in order to create a super soldier drug.
Derg Prantis was soon betrayed by his lab assistant, Bera Jeza, who contacted the Hutt Crime lord Jabba Desilijic Tiure to sell him the super soldier drug. Having discovered the betrayal, the scientist requested his long time associate Cale Herron to help him evacuate his secret lab and destroy evidence. However, the lab was brutally attacked before Herron could intervene and the entire staff was assassinated. Prantis eventually returned to Tatooine.
In 1 ABY, Derg Prantis was assassinated in the Mos Eisley Biolab. A spacer investigating the crime later encountered the Zabrak slicer Cale Herron. The latter tasked the spacer with traveling to Lok and searching for clues in the secret laboratory. The spacer ended up finding a mysterious datapad next to the body of a dead Twi'lek. The investigation finally led to the discovery of the Blackwing virus outbreak on Dathomir.
Sulfur Lake
The Sulfur Lake was a vast sulfur pool on the desert planet Lok. It was located between the Sulphur Hills and the Westerly regions. During the Galactic Civil War, the Sulfur Lake Pirates named themselves after the lake because their secret hideout was located nearby. Indeed, they unintentionally revealed the location of their hideout to their rivals. After the Battle of Yavin, Princess Leia Organa briefly resided in a house built on a small island in the middle of the lake.
Sulphur Hills
The Sulphur Hills were a hilly region on the planet Lok.
Westerly
The Westerly was a desert region on the planet of Lok.
Cities
Nym's Stronghold {Capital}
Nym's Stronghold was the largest city and sole planetary spaceport on the planet Lok. It was built prior to the Galactic Civil War around the base used by Nym and his pirates during the Clone Wars.
Nym's Stronghold was located on the desert planet Lok, in the Outer Rim Territories. The city was located on the banks of the Grendin River and bordered the cliffs where Nym established his base before the Invasion of Naboo. Considered as a stronghold itself, the city was surrounded by tall walls. It was controlled by the Lok Revenants and was patrolled by Nym's guards and by trained kusaks.
A bridge connected the main part of the city to a landing platform, on the other shore of the Grendin River. Nym's Stronghold was the only starport in the Karthakk system. To access this starport, starships needed to be cleared for landing at the Lok Space Station orbiting the planet. In any case, Nym's Stronghold was a haven for outlaws, pirates and smugglers.
History
Nym's Stronghold was built sometime after the Lok Revenants reclaimed their old base from the Trade Federation at the beginning of the Clone Wars. By the time of the Battle of Yavin, Nym had become the unique ruler of Lok and the city could be considered de facto as his capital. Nevertheless, Nym remained a pirate and was quite reluctant to deal with daily matters of his city. After the Battle of Yavin, a mob of disgruntled townspeople protested near Nym's fortress against the shortage of drinkable water in the city. This situation forced Nym to send his henchmen fix the water treatment facility. Around the same time, another Revenant, Ran Machado, was tasked by Nym to pull up some of the unintended foliage in the Stronghold.
Nym's Stronghold was the starting point of the Lok Marathon swoop race. After the Battle of Yavin, the champion Kimmi Chyler used to travel to the city to participate to the race. During one such race, a firefight erupted between the smuggler Dash Rendar and ISB Captain Jeffren Brek.
After the Battle of Yavin, Han Solo and Chewbacca traveled to the Stronghold. As Nym was sympathetic towards the Rebel Alliance, they wished to convince him to support actively the Rebellion. Dusque Mistflier and Finn Darktrin also visited the city in 1 ABY and met Nym on his fortress.
The same year, Nym's Stronghold held a large anniversary celebration known as Nym's Anniversary Bash.
Nym's Base
Nym's Base was the hideout and main headquarters of the pirate Nym and his Lok Revenants for a period of time that lasted from prior to the Invasion of Naboo to the Galactic Civil War. It went through several reconstructions as a contested site between Nym and the Trade Federation during the Occupation of Karthakk. By the time of the Galactic Civil War, a city by the name Nym's Stronghold had been built around the base and the base itself was best known as Nym's Keep.
Characteristics
The base was located on the surface of Lok in a relatively desolate region called the Nym Protectorate. It was constructed out of a crater close to the Grendin River.
Nym's base appeared to be relatively undefended, but maintained numerous hidden defenses throughout the base. It held a hangar used to launch the Havoc, as well as the other Revenant starfighters. This base was constructed into a crater, and it's primary defenses were two turrets stationed along the entrance while others were scattered across the interior. Three large cargo freighters and two smaller freighters were parked in the interior. The primary defensive weapon was the powerful Inferno Turret, which during the Trade Federation's attack was able to fend of a C-9979 landing craft from landing inside the base itself. This turret had a five barrel rotating cannon and two dual laser cannons, one on top and one to the side.
History
Early history
The Lok Revenants operated out of the base, and would frequently attack passing Trade Federation supply ships above the planet, bringing them down and salvaging their cargo. It was unknown how long Nym had been using the base for, but as of 32 BBY it was already well established.
Things took a turn for the worse for Nym when he and his Revenants attacked a Trade Federation Superfreighter carrying prototype Vulture droid starfighters. While the Federation had turned a blind eye to the Revenants' previous attacks, this cargo was far too valuable, and they launched a full-scale invasion of Lok, leaving Nym and his friends little option but to retreat under fire. The attack nearly caused the death of Nym's aide, Jinkins, but he was saved by Nym, and accompanied the evacuation transports as they departed Lok.
Trade Federation control and onwards
With Nym chased off the planet, the base fell under the control of the Federation, and they drastically modified it. The open crater was sealed with a large dome and the inside converted into a droid foundry and hangar.
The hangars were converted into fueling stations for Federation freighters. In 22 BBY, these stations were destroyed in battle by the orbital cannon that had been assembled on one of Lok's moons by the returning Revenants. With the death of Lieutenant Bella, the base was once again under the control of Nym, after his assault on the complex.
Nym's palace
Nym eventually became the leader of Lok during the Galactic Civil War, and would continue to use this as his base of operations. By then, the base had once again undergone a dramatic transformation. A city known as Nym's Stronghold was built around the fortress. By the time of the Battle of Yavin, it was the largest city on Lok and held the only spaceport on the entire planet. The base was turned into a palace and Nym, Kole, Jinkins and Vana Sage could usually be found there and were known to employ a variety of spacers to carry out assignments on their behalf.
Nym's Stronghold cloning facility
A small cloning facility could be found outside of Nym's Stronghold on the planet Lok at the time of the Galactic Civil War.
It was situated in a small, sand colored building with an unknown number of floors below ground. It contained the technology necessary to clone beings, as well as a 2-1B droid. The building was surrounded by a crumbling stone wall. A moisture vaporator stood next to the building.
Nym's Stronghold medical center
The Nym's Stronghold medical center was a medical facility in Nym's Stronghold on the planet Lok at the time of the Galactic Civil War. Members of the Lok Revenants and visitors to the Stronghold would seek out this facility to have their injuries and illnesses treated.
The large building had three floors. A terrace on the second floor provided a view over the northern part of the stronghold, the Grendin River and the small starport.
Stronghold Cantina
The Stronghold Cantina (also called Lok cantina or Nym's Cantina) was a popular establishment in the pirate town of Nym's Stronghold on the planet Lok. It was frequented by many members of the Lok Revenants and visitors.
The cantina was situated in the center of the small stronghold, not far from the bazaar, hotel and medical center. It had two entrances, one in the front and one in the back. The cantina featured of a large room with a long, U-shaped bar counter in the middle of the room where a bartender sold beverages. Six large booths along the walls provided tables and chairs where people could sit down, drink and listen to the music. A door behind the counter led to a small back room that wasn't in use as of 1 ABY. Another room in the back of the cantina gave special patrons a little privacy from the other patrons' prying eyes.
Among the beverages available at the bar were Antakarian Fire Dancer, Sith scorcher, Desert bloom, Lopez Softdrink, Ardees Beverage tea, milk and Jawa beer.
Inhabitants and patrons
Among the beings who visited this cantina regularly in 1 ABY were the retired Sergeant Moore, musician Vixur Webb, retired engineer Choster, CorSec Commander Ramna, the gambler Berema, and the smugglers and Rebel Alliance members Nien Nunb, Chewbacca and Han Solo. The slicer Kaibe could also often be found outside of the cantina.
Kimogila Town
Kimogila Town was an abandoned city on the planet Lok.
History
Once an inhabited town, the city was was overrun by massive Kimogilas, forcing its inhabitants to flee and leaving its structures to waste away. During the Galactic Civil War, many criminals took advantage of this situation to sold pieces of land that they claimed was prime real estate. The victims would then travel to the town and meet their fate at the jaws of Kimogila packs. The spy Talia v'laenya once encountered a spacer in Nym's Stronghold and provided information about Kimogila Town.
After the Battle of Yavin, the town became the scene of fighting between Imperial and Rebel operatives. In 1 ABY, a Rebel agent killed the bounty hunter Vekis Kiyanu in Kimogila Town because he was pursuing a personal vendetta against Nien Nunb.
In 1 ABY, Kimogila Town was the place of a meeting organized to negotiate peace between the Sulfur Lake Pirates and Nym's Lok Revenants.
