Star Wars: The Bad Batch: Season 3 Episode 6: Infiltration

What is it ? : Rex is escorting former Separatist Senator Singh through the streets to a meeting with Republic Senator Riyo Chuchi, he is accompanied by other Clone Troopers, Howzer and Greer.
During the meeting they come under attack by a Clone Assassin, one of the un-numbered Clones which attacked Chuchi back on Coruscant in an earlier episode. They manage to capture the Clone despite him being extremely skilled and prepared, and load him aboard their ship and take him back to a base they've set up in an abandoned building on Teth.
They remove his suicide device, and find a data puck on him with a list of targets, which includes Omega, so Rex contacts the Bad Batch to ask them to come. Howzer tells Rex that while the Batch is visiting he wants to interrogate Crosshair as he knows more which he hasn't told them yet, and while Hunter trusts Crosshair, Howzer still bears a grudge for his actions on Ryloth.
Meanwhile on Tantiss the missing Clone Assassin is reported, and it is revealed that he has a tracking device implanted which is still functioning, so another Clone Assassin is dispatched to terminate the first before he can speak.
The Batch arrive at Teth aboard Echo's ship, who then leaves after gifting Omega an energy Crossbow.
Interrogating the captured assassin he asks the others why they're not questioning Crosshair, who reveals that the Assassins are reprogrammed and enhanced Clone Troopers, and that he was selected for the treatment, but his defective nature meant that it didn't work.
The second Clone Assassin infiltrates the Clone Trooper camp, planting explosives on their ship, and entering the building where he spots Omega, and retreats to report this to base. He is instructed to continue, and support will be dispatched.
As they continue to interrogate the captured Clone Assassin, he is sniped before their eyes, and the camp comes under attack as the Assassin activates his explosives, trapping the Bad Batch, Rex and Howzer in the prison cell.
Meanwhile in space, 2 shuttles filled with Stormtroopers and led by Commander Wolffe and a Clone Commando approach the planet. . . .

High Points : So we get to the core of who the Clone Assassins are, and while it is potentially less interesting than what we thought, (a new batch of un-numbered clones loyal to the Empire), it is potentially more horrifying as Clone's we've met in the past could be reprogrammed and be working for the Empire as these Assassins.

Low Points : Weaker than most this season, it's the first part of a two parter so suffers from being virtually all set up and no delivery. And to make that set up, we get characters making strange decisions. Why do the Batch arrive on Echo's ship instead of the Havok Marauder? Why does Echo leave with his ship. The answer to both is simply, so the characters are trapped and can't just fly away, and because the Assassin blows up all the ships at the Clone Base, so the Marauder and Echo can't be present for that.

So what do you really think ? : As a two parter, it's very dependent on how the story is resolved, but unless there's a very big payout, I can't see this being one of the better stories this season, as it just strikes me as filler. We know they're not going to discover the location of Tantiss yet, and while we've discovered that Tantiss is reprogramming Clones which have turned on the Empire, it's not in a large scale, and we still don't know what the true purpose of the facility is.

Final Words : Well, going to watch the second part now, as they were both released on the same day, and we'll see if I'm right and there's no pay off, or perhaps we'll get something really earth shattering which will totally pay off all the build up we got in this episode.

Score : 8.5/10
