The High Republic: The Hunted: Chapter 2: Back to the Light

What is it ? : After being rescued by Tey Sirrek, Ceret and Terec realise that he is not force sensitive, but he is wielding a Sith Artefact, which is later identified as The "Hand of Siberus". They also notice he has a Lightsaber, which they presume is stolen, but he tells them of his life. How he was on the council on Jedha, and stole the artefact to protect the weak of the planet when the council would not act. The artefact overwhelmed him and he began acting out of character until he was stopped by a Jedi, Vildar Mac, his boyfriend/lover, who trained him to use the artefact without succumbing to the Dark Side.
They still don't trust him, but he does point out that he rescued them from the Nameless and there is still a Nihil Jedi Hunter out there after them, and that the purpose of that hunter isn't to kill them, but to gather more victims for the Nihil Minister of Advancement, Baron Boolan.
Keeve, Sskeer and Lourna Dee arrive back with the child that Sskeer was protecting, and it lashes out with the force against one of the Kotabi Twins and hurls them backwards . . . .

High Points : The story continues, it's interesting and well told, but . . . .

Low Points : This one leaves me so confused. It's issue 6 of this High Republic Series, but we've jumped from Chapter 5 of Children of the Storm, to Chapter 2 of The Hunted. Where has Part 1 gone? Am I supposed to hunt it down, is that part of the irony of the name? There doesn't seem to be any missing story, unless I'm following the story of Tey Sirrek, but we seem to receive enough backstory on him that I just don't care.
While Keeve's story intersecting with Tey's story is fine, it's Keeve I'm interested in.
And the artists spend half a page showing the big kiss between Tey and Vildar, two men, and I really don't care. But this does feel like corporate inclusion, not because they think it's normal, or love should be shown in whatever form it appears, but because they think it'll sell.

So what do you really think ? : Most of the issue is flashback to Tay's history, and now we know more about his past than we do of Ceret or Terec, who have been in the comics since the first issues. This just feels like a big info dump to catch us up with a character who was introduced elsewhere, and they're trying to make Tay so interesting, he's not a Jedi, but he did have some connection to the force, but not enough to make the Nameless a danger to him. He was a thief who rose to the ruling council of Jedha, who stole a Sith Artefact and was trained to use it for good. He's so cool and trendy, you've got to love him. But he hasn't actually done anything yet for me to like him, he's just turned up, and I'll either like or hate him depending on what he does in this story.

Final Words : There's 10 issues in this series, and with 4 to go I feel like they should be heading towards a conclusion, and I'm not even sure we've reached the storyline. Are we supposed to be rescuing Sskeer? Discovering who this kid is? Following Tay's quest to stop Baron Boolan? What about Avar Kriss, she's stuck somewhere in Nihil territory too? And why is Lourna Dee being so helpful now?
The characters introduced in Phase 1 are so different now, that the things which were interesting back then are long forgotten and we seem only to be getting this muddled mess of a story.

Score : 7.5/10
