09/January/2024 Posted by Freddy

And some more characters from Shadows of Starlight 1, so today I've added Sky Graf (Human Tech Genius), Jon (Human Jedi Youngling). & Orla Jareni (Umbaran Jedi Knight / Wayseeker) to the Star Wars D/6 Characters Section of the Site.
Now, over the past couple of years, Wookieepedia, where I get the majority of background information for the characters, has begun putting the pronouns of characters into their biography. While this is absolutely fine, I usually remove those. Not because I have any problem with someone using whatever pronouns they want. But because I have a problem with people assuming the pronouns of someone who hasn't declared them.
So often I find myself questioning how they know that a particular Stormtrooper who has one line in an episode of Andor identifies themselves as a She/Her. But I get especially annoyed when they write the pronouns of a non-sentient creature, how does anyone know how that creature identifies itself (it/its ?).
But why am I bringing it up today? Well that's because one of the characters today is, Sky Graf, who identifies as non-binary. So today for the first time I've included the pronouns in their bio of They/Them, as obviously this time they're known. But I'm commenting as this won't happen again unless it is relevant and the character has identified their pronouns and they are different and remarkable enough to need describing. Otherwise I'm afraid we'll just have to assume that Male characters are He/Hims, and Females are She/Hers, (although it does make me think I might need to go back and update hermaphrodites ,like Hutts, which can identify as they desire).
