I find it weird they call it season 2 but it comes off as the final season also from the trailer, sounds like this wasn't received well, and for me I didn't plan on watching the second season but will see how it wraps up since it looks to be canceled.

I'm massively intrigued as to what they do next.
They started their timeline around 6 months before The Force Awakens, and have raced through that movie. But The Last Jedi only takes place a few days later, and lasts only a few days. Which means that unless they seriously drag things out, then they're going to end up in period between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker.
Now, what Resistance can do as a series is totally dependent on when The Rise of Skywalker is set. If it's once again only days after The Last Jedi, and again is only set over a few days, then presumably Kylo Ren will be killed or return to the lightside, and the First Order destroyed. Which doesn't leave Resistance anything to "Resist".
However, if there's a longer break between the two movies, they could add a fairly interesting time period when the galaxy is controlled by Kylo, a man who has displayed some fairly serious anger management issues.
It could be the makings of an interesting time period, where instead of the Empire imposing order on the galaxy, the First Order is far less controlled and far more slaughtery.
Not likely a good setting for a kids series though, so probably not.

I'm pretty sure that was Captain Phasma in the trailer though, and since she dies in The Last Jedi, I'm guessing that either we're in for a revelation about her survival, or a lot of the season (at least the first half (up until the release of The Rise of Skywalker)) is going to be compressed into a very short period.

Just noticed, they've cancelled Resistance after this season, so this is the second and final season of Resistance . . . .
