Description: Manda was a planet located in the Mid Rim region of the galaxy.
The planet of Manda orbited the main-sequence star of Manda Prime in the Manda system. The world was located at galactic coordinates R-15 in the Slice part of the Mid Rim region of the galaxy, close to that region's border with the Outer Rim Territories. During the conclusion of the New Sith Wars, Manda was located near the border of the Hutt Space, and the planet still remained in that relative position during the final years of the Galactic Republic. In 0 ABY, Manda was a part of the sector of the same name. Manda was located on the Manda Merchant Route—a hyperlane that connected it to the Mid Rim world of Bothawui, the planet of Molavar in the Outer Rim, and Manda's neighboring worlds of Boranda and Dennaskar— and was the starting point of the only reliable hyperspace route to the world of Roon—the Manda-Roon Merchant Route.
The space region surrounding Manda was explored sometime during the time period between 20,000 and 15,000 BBY.
Manda joined the Galactic Republic sometime between 17,000 BBY and 12,000 BBY. In 11,198 BBY, the planet was victim of the Twenty-Third Pius Dea Crusade.
In 3996 BBY—the last year of the Great Sith War—, the Sith Empire engaged the Republic military forces in a battle on the planet following the former's victory at Bothawui. The Sith were victorious at Manda, and moved on to the planet Leritor.
No military actions were carried out in the vicinity of Manda during the Mandalorian Wars. However, in the following Jedi Civil War, the Republic military moved through Manda on their way from Leritor to the planet of Kothlis as part of Republic campaign against Darth Revan's Sith Empire.
Between 1004 and 1000 BBY, Manda was part of the Sith Space—the galactic regions under the control of the Brotherhood of Darkness, a Sith army fighting the Republic during the New Sith Wars.
At some point before 520 BBY, the Baobab Archives were established on the planet, and in that year, the Ark of Baron Auletphant—a legendary barge and one of the Twenty Wonders of the Galaxy that was lost in space for ten millennia—became part of the Archives.
Centuries later, during Anakin Skywalker's apprenticeship to Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi, the latter employed a pilot for transportation from Manda spaceport to the star of Circarpous Major.
During the Clone Wars, Manda was loyal to the Republic.
During the time of the Galactic Empire's dominance over the galaxy, Crix Q5 Baobab taught young Merchant Fleet officers at the Baobab Merchant Marine Academy.
Inhabitants
Around the year 25 ABY, Manda's population numbered from 1 to 10 billion.
The planet was the homeworld of the wealthy Baobab family, a group of merchants. The Baobab Merchant Fleet employed many species, and the Bocce language was developed for interspecies communication within the Fleet. The Baobab Merchant Council also operated from Manda.
Notable natives of the planet included Ebenn Q3 Baobab, Pookie Baobab, Mungo Baobab, Oggem "Old Ogger" Baobab, and presumably Yperio Baobab. It was also home to Rebel Alliance pilot Adam Swiftgale.
Places
Baobab Merchant Fleet Complex
The Baobab Merchant Fleet Complex was a docking complex on Manda.
In 23 BBY, it suffered an explosion from a freighter accident that killed over 2,000 employees and grounded 125 Baobab Merchant vessels. It was later determined that Lasro Javeq, the freighter captain, was behind the explosion.
Baobab Merchant Marine Academy
The Baobab Merchant Marine Academy was an academy on Manda. Crix Q5 Baobab taught there.
Manda spaceport
Manda spaceport was a spaceport on the planet Manda. It contained the Blue Nebula—a seedy cantina and restaurant.
Baobab Archives
The Baobab Archives, located on Manda, were a vast repository of knowledge amassed from all over the galaxy.
Owned by a prestigious merchant family (the Baobabs), the Archives contained information on galactic history, planets, languages, cultures, and hyperspace lanes. Numerous scientists, anthropologists, and philologists also found their way into the Archives' employ; in short, the Baobabs had established a group of scholarly minds as well respected as any comparable research foundation.
In 520 BBY, the Ark of Baron Auletphant—lost in space for ten millennia—became part of the Archives.
Among the treasures there was the only surviving example of the epic poem Dha Werda Verda, discovered by Mungo Baobab.
For numerous years, the Chief Philologist and head of the Baobab Archives was Ebenn Q3 Baobab. Through his efforts in this organization, the Baobab family was able to establish such institutions as the Baobab Archives Cultural Phenomenon Study Center, the Baobab Museum of Science, the Baobab Work Placement Bureau, the Baobab School of Speed-Learning, and the Baobab HoloNet.
Atour Riten did his apprenticeship at the Baobab Archives.
The Blue Nebula
The Blue Nebula was a seedy tavern located on the planet Manda.
