DESCRIPTION:
The Cylon freighter (or Cylon tanker) is an unarmed ship used throughout the Cylon sphere of influence to transport fuel and other goods. Cylon fuel tankers may be used to support an offensive operation, as demonstrated at the Battle of Cimtar. Cylon fuel tankers allow the fighters to deploy far in excess of the ranges they are normally capable of without basestar support. This frees the basestars to attack the colonies while the fighters disposed of the battlestars at Cimtar (Saga of a Star World).
Vipers from both Galactica and Pegasus launch a mission in an attempt to capture Cylon freighters in order to resupply the fleet. The plan is foiled when Commander Cain intentionally destroys the freighters in order to force Adama into a position where he needed to attack Gamoray (The Living Legend, Part I).

This ship never been referred to as a Cylon freighter. I have been a Battlestar Galactica fan most of my life and have seen both of those episodes that the tanker appeared in several times. It has always been referred to as a Cylon tanker.

This link has the original text I used for this stat write-up. As I had not watched the series since it began showing on Sci-Fi Channel back in the 1990s, the information was not fresh in my head. But as far as "referring" to this ship as a freighter, it was referred as such here. The last time I took a look at this wiki entry, the background field was red instead of white, and the pages took forever to load. I'm glad they updated the wiki, even if it's only a "clone". Anyways, since this wiki is established by fans, for fans, I guess that trumps your personal opinion. Sad, since Freddy just recently made that post about toxic fans, but hey, that's life.

I don't remember what I was thinking when I made these stats, BUT, I do see that I gave the "FREIGHTER" a hefty cargo capacity. Looking at the ship visually with fresh eyes, it looks like its cargo space could be modular, with pods slotted in as needed, and these pods could carry whatever cargo the Cylons would need, be it fuel, weapons, various parts, construction materials, slaves for execution, etc. This reinforces my own opinion that the "freighter" term fits, as it could have a "tanker" configuration, but could be configured to fit pretty much any mission profile. Ultimately, this ship, statted out as is, could be used in games as whatever the GM/players want it to be, with plenty of cargo space for customization. Considering how the Cylons work, such a multi-purpose ship actually fits them very well.

If the link doesn't appear, anyone out there reading this can find it easily enough by googling/searching for "battlestar wiki cylon freighter".

Also, in hindsight looking at it now, I think I should have made the freighter have more length. Even if used as a tanker, these ships as shown seemed meant to carry a lot of fuel. I remember Adama argued with Cain about which target to go after, a tanker or a base, the tanker being the easiest target, and wanting to take a Cylon tanker so that, while not enough fuel to sustain the entire fleet indefinitely, it was enough to get the fleet out of immediate danger in the area they were stuck in while low on fuel.

The ENTIRE fleet! Hundreds of ships. One tanker could have supplied that much fuel! So, I would say a freighter could...should....be at least 200m, but probably reach upwards of somewhere between 500m-1,000m. At these greater sizes, the Hull Dice would still fit for a ship of its intended purpose, though an extra +1D wouldn't be too much to ask for (GM/player discretion).

Yes, your probably right. Thanks for straighting that out. I found out just the other day some Cylon Basestars were built to only be used to maintain and modify Cylon Centurions. If they could thqt to a basestar, it would be no problem to change the configuration of a tanker.

So you're deascribing a troop support style basestar? And I can see that, as the basestars seem modular in their design as well. The saucer, disc, whatever, that make up their upper and lower half segments seemed divided into sort of a pizza slice style, like you could remove/add slices as needed. A slice for troops/Centurions, another for Cylon Raiders specifically, another for a more generalized docking bay, another for a dedicated cargo hold, and so on and so forth.

This could be cause for modifying the old Cylon basestar stats I made, but all it would take is a conversion of all the passenger space, fighter/ship compliment, etc, into aw cargo space, and divide that up among the segments a basestar has, and there ya go!
