DESCRIPTION:
The E-wing has had a long history of service fighting against forces of the Empire, first against Grand Admiral Thrawn's forces as he tried to rebuild the falling Galactic Empire, then again against the return of the Emperor when he almost brought the galaxy to its knees yet again. While not having served as long as other venerable starfighters like the Y-wings, X-wings or even A-wings and B-wings, it never-the-less proved itself a powerful fighter in many wars and conflicts. Even with the design flaws it possessed early on against Thrawn and the Emperor, these did not stop it from helping win major engagements against the enemy.
Eventually, these quirks would be worked out and the fighter would enter mass production as one of the New Republic's main starfighters. Though it would usually be sed for escort duty, it could double as a fast assault craft in a lightsecond.
As with other venerable models of starfighter, the E-wing would see several revisions in its time under the New Republic, and later with the Galactic Alliance. By the time of the Yuuzhan Vong War in around 20 ABY, the E-wing Series-III was already in service, however the New Republic was supplanting its navy with other fighters as well. While the Series-III performed remarkably well in every situation, it was still costly and almost to much to afford for an already pressured New Republic.
Never the less, many ace pilots found themselves in the cockpit of an E-wing Series-III starfighter, fighting against the invaders from beyond the galaxy...
