Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Season 5 Episode 20: The Wrong Jedi

What is it ? : Ahsoka has been arrested and is being held by the Jedi as a member of the order, however Admiral Tarkin informs the Jedi council that the Senate doesn't have faith in Ahsoka being dealt with properly as the Jedi won't be impartial. He asks them to cast her out of the order so she can receive a military trial. Obi-Wan says the order should back Ahsoka, but Ki-Adi-Mundi and Saesee Tiin refuse, so Ahsoka is removed as a Padawan and taken to the Senate for trial as a civilian.
Anakin refuses to accept this, and leaves to get Asajj Ventress, who he is convinced is behind this, but after catching her, she informs him she was ambushed by a Jedi, a Jedi who now has her lightsabers, and that Barriss Offee was the one that told them about the warehouse.
Anakin confronts Barriss, who draws Ventress's lightsabers, and they battle in the Jedi temple, as Ahsoka's trial continues, before Offee is captured by Anakin and the Temple Guardians.
The trial, ends with the senate voting that Ahsoka is guilty and should be put to death, however Anakin walks in with Offee, and reveals that she has confessed.
Ahsoka is freed, and the Jedi Council informs her that they are willing to let her rejoin, telling her this was a trial that she passed with flying colours and will be a better Jedi for it, but she refuses and after speaking to Anakin she leaves the Jedi Temple for the last time.

High Points : This is a great conclusion, and I can only imagine the shock at the time of Ahsoka leaving the Jedi Order. We all knew she wasn't around by the time of Revenge of the Sith, but I don't think anyone imagined it would be this way.
Ahsoka's faith in the Jedi order and it's purity has been tested, and she realises now more than ever that the order is flawed and it's members are not perfect. She leaves to find her own path, which will one day lead her to meet Ezra Bridger, Kanan Jarrus, and to meet her master for a final time, but we'll get to that in the fullness of time.

Low Points : My main complaint about this episode is the weakness of the case against Ahsoka, it's circumstantial at best, the evidence stands at
1) She was in the cell with the Saboteur when she died, presumably by the force, but there's no evidence of that and especially no evidence that it was Ahsoka.
2) She was found near to a supply of Nano Droid explosives.
3) She was seen with Asajj Ventress.
4) She escaped from prison, and some of the guards were killed.
5) . . . err that's it really, although they also accuse her of planning the sabotage, even though the whole reason Ahsoka and Anakin were brought in was they were offworld at the time and above suspicion.
They make no effort to bring in character witnesses, no one asks the Jedi if she's even capable of force choke, and no mention is made of the many times she's saved lives and performed heroic actions.

Also, why is Admiral Tarkin acting as prosecutor? Surely that job should go to a lawyer of some type rather than a Naval Admiral?

Also, if Anakin and Palpatine are so close (or at least in Anakin's eyes) why doesn't Anakin ask his friend palpatine for help? This is his Padawan, her guilt reflects badly on him as a trainer/Jedi Master, and you'd think he'd want his friend to help, but we see none of that here at all.

And this is more of a criticism of me than the Episode. It's called The Wrong Jedi, named after the Hitchcock movie The Wrong Man (as all parts of this story have been named after Hitchcock movies), but every time I see the name, I can't help but think of Wallace and Gromit, The Wrong Trousers.

So what do you really think ? : This was an absolute gem of a story, with real repercussions, and the parallels between Ahsoka and Asajj Ventress were well thought out and dealt with. Clone Wars feels finished, but I know there's a bunch of episodes in Season Six still to come, but I have a feeling they are more about putting characters in place for the beginning of Rebels than they are about resolving any further storylines in The Clone Wars. In fact I have difficulty thinking of any hanging storylines left in Clone Wars except Asajj Ventress's eventual fate.

Final Words : Well, Season five of Clone Wars has been really pretty darn good, even if there are only 5 storylines in the entire 20 episode season. Stretching every storyline to 4 episodes has been an absolute shame, as it makes the seasons seem too short.
Basically all we had, was the storyline on Onderon, the Younglings Storyline, the Droids Storyline, the resolution of Maul, Opress and Obi-Wan and Duchess Satine Wren, and finally the sabotage storyline we've just finished. All worthy stories, but when an entire season can be summed up in a sentence, you're putting your eggs in too few baskets.
I'd have much preferred at least one of those stories being dropped and replaces with standalone episodes scattered through the season for variety.
That said, when I started watching Clone Wars, I'd never have imagined that the stories could be this good, I wonder what season six has in store for me?

Score : 9/10
