Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures: Season 2: Story 5: A Pirates Pet

What is it ? : Taborr Val Dorn is at Yarrum Tower with his gang, when they see the Gangul Gang selling treasure they found, but they spot someone trying to steal from them. The leader of the Ganguls, Sellaccc Orryak, has a new pet, a Gotis, which spots the thief and they catch him.
Everyone in Yarrum Tower is very impressed by the Ganguls having stolen such a useful pet, so Taborr decides he's going to outdo them by getting a more impressive pet, and comes up with the perfect pet, a Gangul from Tenoo.
Landing on Tenoo they find a Gangul, but make too much noise and scare the creature away, and it flees into Kublop Springs.
Meanwhile Wes Vinik is training the Young Jedi, and Kai tries to show off, making a mistake instead. Kai, Nubs and Lys then get a call from Hap, who tells them a Gangul is causing chaos in the town, so they head off to help. They find Taborr trying to capture the creature, and he lures it into his ship with some meat, taking it away to Yarrum Tower.
The Young Jedi are worried about the Gangul being taken to an unnatural environment, so ask Nash for a loan of her ship, but she says it doesn't have enough cargo space to carry a Gangul. But fortunately she has made an add on cargo bay they can equip the ship with.
At Yarrum Tower everyone is impressed by Taborr having a Gangul, but Sellaccc Orryak throws some meat to the creature causing it to run amok, and everyone mocks Taborr and his gang instead.
As Taborr and his gang chase the Gangul out into the desert surrounding the tower, the Young Jedi arrive and are worried because the Gangul is not equipped for desert life, and by the time they catch up they discover the creature has collapsed exhausted from the heat.
Taborr still intends to capture the creature, but Kai realises that all Taborr is trying to do is impress his fellow pirates, the same way Kai earlier was trying to impress his fellow Jedi. So offers Taborr a deal, if he lets them return the Gangul to Tenoo, he can tell his fellow pirates he managed to chase the Jedi off, something Taborr agrees to.
Lys revives the Gangul with some water and they lure it aboard the add on cargo bay, and take it back to Tenoo where they release it, and Kai speaks about him understanding Taborr a bit more now. But Lys tells him that in their way, both him and Taborr helped the Gangul . . .

High Points : I did like that Taborr intends to outclass the Gangul gang, but capturing one of the fierce creatures they named themselves after, an extremely good way of humiliating his opponents.

Low Points : But when they introduced the Gangul creatures in the first season, they were dangerous predators, which the Young Jedi had to scare away with their lightsabers. Now Ganguls are cuddly animals easily tamed, which if nothing else does present the danger of teaching the kiddie viewers of the show to not be afraid of fierce animals, which seems like a bad lesson to teach them.

So what do you really think ? : The episode is again, absolutely fine, and it's nice to see Taborr back, the Gangul gang don't have the character he has, and while they are more "menacing" than he is, they're a cartoonish threat instead of having some actual motives which make Taborr far more interesting to watch.

Final Words : So the lesson this episode is that trying to impress people leads to no good. Which at it's most basic level seems fine, but doesn't that mean that you shouldn't try to win awards or come top of your class at school, as they're just methods of impressing people?

Score : 8/10
