Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures: Season 2: Story 10: Battle for the Band

What is it ? : Hap is preparing his eatery for the day, and a band is setting up, Feb Rozo and the Sap Tap Trio, when the Ganguls barge in, and kidnap the band. Later the Young Jedi and Wes Vinik are going to Haps Sap Tap for breakfast when they find it wrecked, and Hap is cowering behind the counter.
He tells them of the kidnap, and feels bad that he acted cowardly and allowed the band to be kidnapped. Telling them that the band has been taken to Yarrum.
Wes and The Young Jedi take Hap with them in the Crimson Firehawk with Nash to Yarrum and they spot the Ganguls ship, Rathtar's Revenge, hovering over a sail barge. Looking through binoculars they spot the band, and that the Ganguls are dealing with a Hutt, Bulcha.
The realise they're outnumbered, so go in disguise but Hap is spotted so does what he does best and begins serving drinks to the Hutts crew. Wes and the Young Jedi try to free the band, but are spotted when Wes ignites his lightsaber to cut them free. Bulcha orders his droid guards to capture the Jedi, and they once again find themselves outnumbered and have to surrender.
Hap sees this happen, and decides that he needs to do something as now more of his friends have been captured without him doing anything. The Ganguls finish a deal with Bulcha trading the band, and now the Jedi for some droids.
Hap sneaks down to where the Jedi are being held, but is spotted, so throws drinks at the guards which cause them to slip and knock themselves out, so he frees the Jedi.
The Jedi free the band, and Nash swoops in, allowing everyone to board the Crimson Firehawk and escape.
Later back at Haps Sap Tap, the band plays and thanks Hap for helping rescue them, and he says he has realised that anyone can be a hero if they try. . . .

High Points : Interesting to get a Hap episode, but its message that inaction is the worst thing you can do, is very much the message of "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." A strong message these days.

Low Points : I think Wes is going down as most captured Jedi ever. He's been in three episodes so far, and been captured 3 times so far. Being captured is now his thing. I know that it's important for the kids to be the protagonists in this series, but why even put him in this episode? Nothing would have been different if he wasn't in it at all.

So what do you really think ? : A fun little episode, but one that doesn't make a lot of sense. If there's value in capturing Jedi, including Younglings, it just makes the Jedi more irresponsible for allowing them to wander around unwatched, if the Ganguls can raid Kublop Springs to kidnap the band unopposed, I'm surprised that there aren't gangs of raiders kidnapping Jedi younglings from the town whenever they go to grab a snack.

Final Words : This season is suffering badly from making adult characters act foolishly so they are on a level with the kids in the show. Something last season really wasn't bad at, last year Taborr was the main villain, and he's another kid so an equal of the Young Jedi. But the Ganguls last year were only featured a couple of times, and were a major threat the first time beaten only by rallying an entire town against them, and then they were attempting to get make Nubs their ally, so weren't really fighting the Young Jedi. But this year we've seen them as opponents time after time, and outwitted and defeated by the kids, which just makes them seem incompetent and weak.

Score : 8.5/10
