Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures: Season 2: Story 14: The Great Gomgourd Quest

What is it ? : The Young Jedi accompany Wes Vinik to Omaka for their feast on Dunkutu Day, as featured in season one. However they discover there is a shortage of Gormgourds this year, although there is plenty of other food.
Their friend Fiorna returns from scavenging with some Gormgourds which everyone is delighted by, but the village is divebombed by some Kroop Birds which steal the gormgourds and wreck the festival. Which surprises the villagers as the Kroop birds usually keep to the mountains and don't bother them. As they begin setting the festival back up, Fiorna and Nubs set off to get some more fruit with her droid HM-7, and in the forest they find some Bofa fruits, but Fiorna says she knows where they can get some Gormgourds.
They set off up the path into the mountains, and HM-7 almost falls off, and only with the two straining to they manage to rescue him, but the load of fruit they'd gathered is lost. They complete the climb and find a patch of Gormgourds, but as they begin gathering them they notice Kroop Bird nests overhead and the birds begin to corner them.
Realising the festival is set up, but Fiorna and Nubs haven't returned the others set out to find them, following HM-7's footprints up into the mountains and finding them threatened by the birds.
They realise the bird are really only interested in the fruits and they feed them some, and leave the birds alone returning to the village.
The festival goes off well even without the Gormgourds, and the villagers point out the festival is all about sharing what you have with friends, so it is a success. And Nubs enjoys a cracker with Bofa Fruit jam, which he shares with a bird that has followed them to the village.

High Points : Again it's always nice how Young Jedi Adventures builds it's universe, returning this time to Omaka and the same festival they attended last year. Apart from that it's a nice gentle story, of trying to get some fruit for a festival, there's nothing too exciting going on, no real threat, just a nice story.

Low Points : It is extremely obvious the cause of the bird attack on the festival from the start, and the resolution is equally obvious when they find the patch of Gormgourds directly beneath the birds nests.

So what do you really think ? : There's not much remarkable about this episode, and it's eminently skippable, but there's nothing much wrong with it. A gentle little episode which I have to admit was on in the background while I did other things, it didn't demand my attention as nothing complex or exciting was going on, but it didn't offend or bore me either.

Final Words : At the end of the episode, when they're at the festival, I was extremely amused by Nubs feeding the small bird which comes, when there are large roasted birds sitting on the tables as part of the feast. Which seems to change the message of the episode, "Leave animals at peace", to include, "or eat them."

Score : 7/10
