Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures: Season 2: Story 16: The Lost Treasure of Tenoo

What is it ? : Kai and the other Jedi Padawan Djovi are sorting through relics found in the ruined part of the Jedi Temple on Tenoo when they find an old Datapad. It turns out that it belonged to Kaliah Kublop, the founder of Tenoo, and is her journal showing her and a Jedi, Staas Ragnabi. They mention that their base was attacked by the Pirate Captain Blackbolt, but he is afraid of snakes, so they forced him away, but they also leave the co-ordinates for Kaliah's base.
Kai and Djovi decide to find the hidden base, taking Dunnel mounts, but they are followed by a small probe droid. They arrive at the co-ordinates but can't find the base, but realise when they see a snake heading behind a waterfall and not emerging that the entrance is hidden behind the waterfall.
Once they are inside, they find Kaliah's base filled with lost relics and artefacts, but Captain Blackbolt enters as well, with the probe droid settling on his shoulder like a parrot. He tells them he repaired his ship and returned, and he summons two smaller droids to deal with the Jedi while he looks through his newly acquired booty.
The two Jedi fight, but the snakes in the cave scare Djovi and they end up being knocked out through the waterfall. Kai talks Djovi through his fear, and the two re-enter the base, and use the snakes to scare Blackbolt away as they are aware of his fear.
As they are victorious, Kai tells Djovi that Kaliah and Staas would be proud of him, and activates a hologram of the two. . . .

High Points : It's nice to see Blackbolt back, and it feels as if they can do something really interesting with him at some point, as he's a foe of the very founder of their planet, and perhaps he as a Pirate Captain can end up working with the Ganguls who are a rising force in the series so far.

Low Points : But that's all just possibilities, this episode really doesn't have anything particularly interesting going on in it. There's a base supposedly abandoned for many hundreds or thousands of years, but it's not even dusty. Blackbolt has returned, and is getting his probe droid to follow Kai, even though he has no way of knowing they've found Kaliah Kublop's datapad. Although I suppose he could have just been getting the droid to follow Kai to get him alone to punish him for Blackbolt's earlier defeat, so the discovery of the base is purely co-incidental.
And anyway, a story about defeating your fears? Isn't that exactly what Kai went through just a couple of episodes ago with his fear of spiders?

So what do you really think ? : There's some action, there's the possibility of better stories in the future, but this episode doesn't impress, it's absolutely fine, and perhaps the kids that it's written for will just enjoy the action of Jedi against evil droid Pirate, but it just feels all a bit easy.

Final Words : While I try to rate my scores for Young Jedi Adventures based on it being targeted towards a young audience, this one really doesn't have much going on beyond the action. And it's not even very spectacular or exciting action. It just feels very derivative of other episodes, without much of interest to make it stand out from the rest of the series.

Score : 7/10
