DESCRIPTION:
When the Yuuzhan Vong invaded the galaxy, the New Republic already had many starfighters far advanced from their originally released models, fighters that had defeated the Galactic Empire and won peace for everyone the galaxy over. But when faced with the new menace, even these advanced starships were hard-pressed to hold back the onslaught from another galaxy.
At the beginning of the Yuuzhan Vong war, around 20 ABY, the Series-III E-wing was already in service. By the fall of Coruscant three years later, the Series-IV E-wing had entered service and was fighting viciously against the invaders. Though it was much more advanced than any previous model of E-wing, and even above most other common fighters of the time save the T-65XJ X-wing models, even then the battle was fierce and these starfighters were pushed to their extreme limits.
Still, valiant pilots from the newly established Gallactic Alliance used the impressive fighters constanty against the Yuuzhan Vong, and would win victory for the inhabitants of the galaxy, one battle at a time, star by star.
While the Series-IV has been enhaced in every way across the board...acceleration, avionics package, sensors package, weapons power and upgraded targeting systems, hull plating and newer alloys, more efficient and expansive shielding...one of the best in the new editions to the fighter is the inclusion of a second proton torpedo launcher.
When the E-wing was first introduced, it only had the single launcher, but it used torpedoes with a higher yield than those in the X-wing models of the time ad could carry sixteen of these within its chassis. The Series-IV, while still using the same yield of proton warhead, now has two launchers that pull from the same payload magazine. It can fire either one or two torpedoes as needed.
The newer models T-65XJ X-wing starfighters now use this same yield of proton warhead. While they have three launchers to deliver their payload, they still cannot carry more than nine torpedoes, where the Series-IV E-wing carries almost double that.
