Description: Exegol was a dark desert planet located within the Unknown Regions that, according to legend, was the hidden world of the Sith. It was occupied by the Sith Lord Darth Sidious and the Sith Eternal by 35 ABY. It was also the birthplace of former First Order Supreme Leader Snoke, whom Sidious created to rule the First Order while concealing himself in the shadows as the true ruler. Exegol was used to hide the Sith Eternal fleet amassed by Darth Sidious and the Sith Eternal, from where they planned to deploy the Sith fleet and use the Final Order to establish a new Empire. Exegol was the site of a battle during the war between the First Order and the Resistance, which saw the defeat of the Final Order and the Sith Eternal.
Exegol was a dark, barren, and rocky world with desert flats. The planet's dry conditions combined with the rubbing of dust particles in its atmosphere created enormous static discharges that appeared as lightning strikes on the surface. The planet was covered with enormous fissures that reached deep into its crust. These fissures were excavated by Sith loyalists in the ancient past, who were attempting to reach a vergence they believed to lie beneath the surface.
History
Early history
Exegol was one of the oldest Sith bastions, dating back to about a thousand years prior to the fall of the Galactic Republic. Ancient Sith or Sith Loyalists built the Sith Citadel on Exegol, in order to have meetings and conduct rituals.
Sith Eternal
By the era of the Galactic Empire, the last Sith Lords, Darth Sidious and Darth Vader, possessed the only two wayfinders leading the way to Exegol. After Sidious' death at the Battle of Endor, the Sith Eternal cult chose Exegol as their base because it was completely hidden from even the most studious of galactic historians, some of whom knew about Moraband and the other Sith worlds.
Places
Sith Citadel
The Sith Citadel, also called the Citadel was an ancient Sith temple located on the hidden Sith world of Exegol. It was the headquarters of the Sith Eternal cult following the demise of the last two Sith Lords at the Battle of Endor and contained the throne of the Sith, which the resurrected Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Sidious, intended to to serve as the seat of his new Empire.
The Citadel was both underground and above ground, with the latter being a large, upside-down truncated pyramid structure made of black stone. The structure floated above Exegol's surface. A platform was used to lower someone into the underground part of the Citadel.
The Sith Citadel contained a large hall filled with ancient Sith statues. It also had an amphitheater that housed the throne of the Sith, and at least one other room used for medical purposes, such as cloning and life support (at least during the time Darth Sidious occupied it).
History
Early history
The Sith Citadel on Exegol was one of the earliest bastions of the Sith.
Galactic Empire
At some point during the reign of the Galactic Empire, Darth Sidious had two Sith wayfinders created to guide the way to the Citadel on Exegol. One was made for himself and stored within his throne room upon the second Death Star, while the other was given to his apprentice, Darth Vader, who kept it in his castle on Mustafar.
First Order-Resistance war
Sometime following the Battle of Endor, Sith loyalists chose the Citadel to be their new fortress, as they believed Morabandâ€â€while once the greatest fortress of the Sithâ€â€was too likely to be discovered. At some point, Sidious was resurrected and came to reside at the Citadel, where he guided the actions of Snoke, whom Sidious himself had created sometime before, both to test Kylo Ren's worthiness to take up the Sith mantle and to rule over the First Order while Sidious moved in the shadows.
Meanwhile, Jedi Master Luke Skywalker believed the conflict with the Sith was not over despite Vader's conversion to Anakin Skywalker and the death of Sidious above Endor. He and Lando Calrissian set out to locate the Emperor's wayfinders in the hopes of locating the Citadel on Exegol, where Luke believed he could end the conflict with the Sith once and for all. Luke's hunt went cold on Pasaana and he ultimately went into exile on Ahch-To following the fall of his nephew, Ben Solo.
In 35 ABY, Supreme Leader Kylo Ren arrived at the Citadel with the intent of killing the resurgent Emperor, whom he believed was a threat to his power. However, Sidious convinced Ren to instead take up the hunt for the Jedi apprentice Rey, who was in reality his granddaughter, in exchange for the Sith Eternal fleet and the might of the Final Order. However, Ren was turned from the dark side through the combined efforts of Rey and his mother, Leia Organa, and became Ben Solo once again.
After using Ren's wayfinder, Rey arrived at the Citadel and confronted Sidious. She refused Sidious's offer to become a Sith and, joined by Ben, attempted to kill the Dark Lord once and for all. Instead, Sidious used their dyad in the Force to restore his mortal body. From the Throne of the Sith, Sidious unleashed a storm of power that nearly destroyed the Resistance forces. However, empowered by the voices of all the Jedi who came before her, Rey stood and defeated Sidious by reflecting his lightning back at him. The resulting shockwave destroyed the Citadel, and left Rey alone, where she effectively died. Rey was revived by Ben Solo, who used Force healing in conjunction with his dyad with Rey to trade his life for her's. Ben died in the ruined Citadel, and became one with the Force. Rey flew away from the ruins in Luke Skywalker's X-Wing.
Sith Citadel throne room
The Sith throne room of Emperor Sheev Palpatine was located at the Sith Citadel of Exegol. It housed the ancient Throne of the Sith, which the Dark Lord of the Sith offered to both Kylo Ren and Rey, two promising successors. Opposite to the throne was an amphitheater that could hold hundreds of Sith cultists.
Throne of the Sith
The Throne of the Sith, also called the Dark Throne, was the Sith throne of Exegol, located within the Sith Citadel's Sith loyalist chamber. It was offered to Kylo Ren and Rey by the resurgent Darth Sidious in 35 ABY. After both offers were denied, the Galactic Emperor and Dark Lord of the Sith took the throne for the Sith Eternal and intended for it to serve as the seat of power for his new eternal empire.
Hâsk desert
The Hâsk desert was a region of desert on Exegol, an ancient Sith planet in the Unknown Regions of the galaxy.
Hon Zduul plateau
The Hon Zduul plateau was a plateau on the planet Exegol, an ancient world of the Sith.
