Star Wars: Legacy: 30: Vector, Part 11

What is it ? : Darth Reave reports back to Darth Krayt what happened on Had Abaddon, and Krayt asks if it was Cade that gave him is his wounds, but Reave tells him it was monsters under the control of a woman who was with Cade. And then he transforms into a Rakghoul, attacking Krayt, but he is struck down by Darth Stryfe.
Darth Maladi looks at the body, and tells Krayt that this is ancient Sith Alchemy, and tells him of the Rakghouls and ancient Taris, but mentions how the Rakghouls are now extinct. They are interrupted by a communication from Had Abaddon, and Celeste Morne.
She tells Krayt that she is actually Karness Muur controling Celeste from the Amulet she wears. She tells him that she has captured Cade and that he has revealed he is important to Krayt, which Krayt denies, leading to Celeste threatening Cades life, but Krayt admits that he needs Cade.
She tells Krayt to come alone to Had Abaddon, as she wants to make a deal to use the Sith arts she is a master of to heal Krayt.
As they travel to Had Abaddon, Darth Talon and Darth Stryfe discuss Talon's failure, and second chance, as she tells him she is loyal and would kill herself at his command. Meanwhile Krayt questions Darth Wyyrlok about Karness Muur, and Wyyrlok tells him that he was mentioned in the scrolls he recovered from Darth Annedu's tomb, telling him that Muur is one of the first Sith, predating their exile to Korriban and how he was able to twist life itself into monsterous creations. How like his fellow Sith he tried to extend his life, but he created an Amulet which contained his very mind and will, allowing him to take over bodies and survive that way.
Krayt asks if Muur could heal him, which Wyyrlok tells him is possible, so Krayt decides he will need Cade as well, in case Muur's promises don't deliver, as he feels the Yuuzhan Vong seeds inside him are escaping his control and he will soon be a mindless thing or corpse. Wyyrlok promises him they will find a way, and Krayt decides to take the other Sith, to make a deal from a position of power.
Confronting Celeste, she taunts him for being a coward and bringing others with him, but when she threatens Cade once more, he tells her no deal will be possible if she kills Cade, and she comments that while he is a coward, he is not a stupid coward.
Krayt questions about Cade's friends, and Celeste tells him that she killed them in front of Cade and fed on his pain. Krayt asks what she wants, and she wants him to kill the body she is in, and take the Amulet, and when they share a body, Muur will heal it.
Krayt is sceptical, but Muur begins healing him. The other Sith move to defend their master, but Krayt waves them back as he feels the effect working.
Suddenly, Talon notices that Cade has freed himself, and she and him begin fighting, as Cade's allies leap from cover and attack. Celeste regains control and attacks the weakened Krayt, as Stryfe fights Rakghouls, Shado Vao fights Maladi, but the Imperial Knights, Antares Draco, Ganner Krieg and Azlyn Rae are caught in their own conflict as Draco plans to seize the Amulet, but Rae refuses to let it corrupt their Emperor. Draco hurls Rae away using the force, and leaps to attack Celeste, but she is ready for him having detected his intensions, but this leads to Muur taking control of her body in the moment of stress, and Krayt is swarmed by Rakghouls, which he hurls away, declaring it to be time for an ending. . . .

High Points : A lot going on in this issue, mostly concerning bringing us up to date with Krayt and his forces, and while the writers try to add a level of risk by making Celeste speak with Muur's voice (shown by the border and colour of the speech bubbles), to make us think perhaps Muur has seized control, it's obvious it's all part of their plan.
And we get a nice big skirmish breaking out, with Jedi, Imperial Knights, Rakghouls and Sith all fighting, lots of dialogue between Talon and Cade, given their closeness and the link between the two forged when Cade healed her.

Low Points : But for the misdirection about whether it's Celeste or Muur speaking to Krayt, it does mean that when Muur does seize control at the end of the issue, it's shown by the same speech bubbles, which only moments before just indicated that Celeste was pretending to be Muur. But it works, so no massive problems with it there.
The skirmish at the end does contain potentially too many characters to keep track of in so few pages, with Maladi and Shado Vao pairing off, but the Imperial Knights getting to stand to one side and have their own argument before joining the melee, but some other characters just getting lost in the crowd.

So what do you really think ? : I liked this one a lot, leading nicely into the finale of Vector with the Celeste at risk as Muur has taken control and intends to let her be sacrificed to Krayt to join with him instead, the Imperial Knights torn between following Roan Fel's orders, or the reason their order exists, to keep the Emperor free of Dark Side influences. And in all this, Cade and his allies are caught up in this just trying to survive.

Final Words : They're really integrated Vector into the Legacy series well, with it becoming a key point in the Legacy storyline. I really enjoyed the section where Wyyrlok fills in the background of Muur, telling us of the very beginnings of the Sith order, and their exile to Korriban. I've always loved that part of the background, and it was great to have another little look into it.

Score : 9/10

And once again, we get evidence why I don't like the Imperial Knights. Yeah, they're supposed to keep the Emperor in check, but who keeps them in check? Is Antares Draco acting like this as part of his service to the Emperor, or to make a good impression so Roan Fel will consent to Antares Draco being with his daughter? Honestly, Antares Draco shouldn't have survived the comics. In truth, there are only three IK I liked - Azlyn Rae, Treis Sinde, and maybe Ganner Krieg.
