Star Wars: Legacy: 32: Fight Another Day 1

What is it ? : Running concurrently with the Vector storyline we go back to Dac, where Darth Krayt ordered that Mon Calamari species be punished for their rebellion against his Sith Empire. A group of Mon Calamari refugees come under attack from Sith submersible fighters, only to be rescued by Mon Calamari Rangers, led by an Imperial Knight.
He forces his way onboard the command ship, and faces against the crew which includes a Sluissi who the Knight recognises as having fought at their side in a previous battle before the split of the Empire. He kills the Sluissi and the Sith forces and forced into retreat.
Afterwards the Rangers are in a celebratory mood, but the Imperial Knight is critical of their tactics, that they prioritised the lives of the Mon Calamari civilians over tactical advantages, that capturing the Sith command ship would have given the Rangers a place to fight from, but the Rangers will not sacrifice their own people for some potential future advantage.
When they push this point, the Imperial Knight, Treis Sinde, tells them he has sacrificed his own people, naming the Sluissi, but it is pointed out that he was on the wrong side. Sinde tried to argue that he was just following orders. The Mon Cal question Sinde whether if he was ordered to betray them would he do it, and he vaguely answers that he would never choose to betray them.
Aboard an AT-AT swimmer, Darth Azard and a Givin Sith Officer overlook a Mon Cal prison camp where the people are being left to starve in their own filth, and discuss using an ancient Sith creature to crush resistance.
They have found a Leviathan, a creature created by the Sith thousands of years before in hibernation, and Azard is to use the Force to awaken it and imprint upon it so it obeys them.
It awakens and feeds upon the prisoners in the camp, using energy pods on it's back to drain the very lifeforce from them, leaving only husks behind. And they then lead it out into the ocean towards the last reported location of the Mon Calamari Rangers. . . .

High Points : Legacy often finds it's most interesting stories when it leaves the main characters behind, and this is one of those times. We're thrust into the subjugation of Dac, as the Sith forces follow through with Krayt's orders to eliminate and enslave the Mon Calamari people. And it's making the two sides in this interesting, as there are divisions between the Mon Calamair Rangers and their Imperial Knight ally, but also divisions within the Sith Forces, as the Givin in charge is not a force user, but still considers himself one of the Sith, where Darth Azard considers the Darth's to be more loyal than the other followers of Krayt.

Low Points : Treis Sinde as well as showing how the Imperial Knights are not heroes, and are not far above the Sith in their attitude, comes across as a bit cowardly in this issue. He blames the Mon Calamari Rangers for concentrating on protecting their people rather than following through with their orders, so he alone boards the Sith Command Ship. But he doesn't confront Darth Azard, to seize control of the vessel, or even make any attempt to enter the control room, instead retreating and allowing the vessel to escape. Something he blames the Rangers for, but it comes across to me that he just really doesn't want to face a Sith in lone combat.

So what do you really think ? : An interesting diversion, with Krayt seemingly dealt with, and Cade's quest over, we're getting back to seeing the storyline on a larger level as we're shown the effects that being under Sith control actually means. Krayt's Sith Empire is more destructive than Palpatine's was, being more about coming down and crushing resistance than the manipulation of Palpatine's reign. But it will be interesting if Leia's comment to Tarkin in the original movie become a prophecy, as the more they tighten their grip, the more star systems slip through their fingers.
It will also be interesting to see whether the orders of Darth Krayt will still be followed, or whether Darth Wyyrlok having taken control of the Sith Empire will attempt a different method of maintaining control.

Final Words : The Imperial Knights really aren't heroes, they speak of following orders, and allow civilians to be slaughtered for tactical advantages. While keeping your forces alive to fight the enemy is important, the Imperial Knights come across as willing to take no risk unless they think they're sure to win. They preach of being superior to the Jedi, but their attitude is definitely in between the Sith and the Jedi.

Score : 8.5/10
