Star Wars: Legacy: 41: Rogues End

What is it ? : At the beginning of the Sith / Imperial War, the Mandalorians were hired by the Galactic Alliance to fight on the world of Botajef. One of the Mandalorians, Hondo Karr, is betrayed by another, Yaga Auchs, who is being paid to get the Mandalorians out of this battle. He is rescued by another Mandalorian, and since they are now outnumbered by Stormtroopers, he decides to disguise himself as one of them by wearing their armour, his colleague sacrifices himself to make Karr look like he was going to be executed by the Mandalorians, and Karr is accepted as one of their number by Joker Squad.
In the current day, the Galactic Alliance dispatches two pilots from Rogue Squadron to make a deal with the Hutts, for the fleeing Mon Calamari to take refuge on one of their worlds, Da Soocha. Anj Dahl and Hondo Karr take a YT-2400 to the Hutt Spa world of Napdu to make the deal with the Hutt, Azzim Anjiliac Atirue.
Arriving they are ambushed by bounty hunters and taken down in combat, but this is just a ruse to take their unconscious bodies to the Hutt. Azzim is disgusted by the Sith actions, and they make a deal for the Mon Calamari to take refuge on Da Soocha.
As they leave the meeting they are ambushed by a Mandalorian, who Hondo Karr identifies as his ex-wife. They battle, and Karr uses the steam and mud in the spa to advantage over his ex-wife, and takes time to explain to her the betrayal of Yaga Auchs who has now become the leader of the Mandalorians, Mandalore.
In space, Rogue Squadron protects transports carrying Mon Calamari.
With the Mon Calamari saved, Anj Dahl goes looking for Karr, finding his ex-wife has agreed to help him and he will be leaving Rogue Squadron on his own mission with her, and we see them leave in her ship, with Hondo Karr donning Mandalorian Armour once more, but painted in the colours of Justice and Revenge. . . .

High Points : The scam to avoid being spotted making a deal with Azzim Anjiliac Atirue is clever, for his people to stun them and take them as captives to the meeting, so everyone else thinks they have been captured and Azzim has no friendly intentions towards the Galactic Alliance.

Low Points : But the rest of the issue is a mess, we start off with the flashback which isn't well explained, but has Hondo Karr being betrayed by Yaga Auchs, who says his boss wants the Mando's out of "it", but we're not told if that it is the battle, or working for the Galactic Alliance? And we're not told who Auch's boss is, is this a command that has come down from the Mandalore? Or is her working for Krayt?
We then jump forwards to the current date, and after seeing Karr join Joker Squad, he's now somehow part of Rogue Squadron? He just happens to be chosen for the mission to make a deal with the Hutts, where his ex-wife has gone? Was that a co-incidence and she took advantage of him appearing to attack? Or was she hunting for him specifically? And after a flash to a space battle which doesn't effect the story at all, we see Karr leaving Rogue Squadron and going on a mission to get revenge of Yaga Auchs.

So what do you really think ? : What, why, how? What is going on here, why are we being shown a brand new storyline which doesn't really seem to be connected to anything else, and how did Karr leave Joker Squad and join Rogue Squadron?
Joker Squad was introduced back in the first really interesting issue of Legacy, and them being reintroduced here really seemed like an opportunity, I so thought we were going to get a story of Karr operating undercover within Joker Squad, with some kind of interesting dynamic that while we know that Joker Squad is on the wrong side of the war, we know they're decent people, and we'd see more of that.
The other interesting storyline, is the hiding of the Mon Calamari people on Da Soocha, a water world that the Hutts use for special water for their mud baths, which could have been interesting, as it apparently has a mystical connection to the Hutts, so while Azzim is sympathetic to the Mon Calamari people, the problems that might be caused by them living in the Hutt's Magic water could be interesting.

Final Words : The story jumps all over the place, is so rushed to make Karr the protagonist, introducing us to the betrayal on Botajef, his position with Rogue Squadron and the Galactic Alliance helping the good guys, and his ex-wife, that none of it is given space to be introduced properly and to tell a story, the space battle protecting the Mon Calamari is just thrown into the issue to give us some extra action, but seems pretty pointless, with the Empire pointlessly identifying the transport with the Mon Calamari only a single frame before they escape and the battle ends. So while it seems as if they're trying to introduce some risk to the escaping Mon Calamari Civilians, it's defused instantly.
I really didn't like this issue.

Score : 6.5/10

This issue is made even worse in retrospect, as I just looked at the Wookiepedia pages for Yaga Auchs and Hondo Karr, and neither is ever mentioned again after this issue . . .
The storyline set up here, was never mentioned ever again.
