Star Wars: Legacy: 45: Monster, Part 3

What is it ? : Darth Maladi, Darth Nihl and the Vong Shaper that disrupted the Jedi/Vong plans to repair the damage the Vong had done to planets, Zenoc Quah, are on Wayland. Maladi is trying to convince Nihl to ally himself with her. She believes that Krayt is dead, and Wyyrlok is covering it up to keep the Sith working together rather than fight for who is leader, but she thinks it will come out sooner or later and she is developing a weapon to allow her to take that position and she wants Nihl as another non-Korriban born Sith to work with her. He leaves to go to Korriban to investigate.
Aboard the Imperial Strike Fleet on course to Agamar to attack the meeting between the Jedi and Roan Fel, Gunn Yage objects to her squadron being given new fighters, but the Sith in charge tells her it is a command, so she agrees. Her father berates her for making a pointless objection, and she asks his advice on what she should do if she has secret information on someone and could destroy them. He advises to think like a fighter pilot, and only attack when success is sure.
On Wayland, Cade finds Deliah strapped into a Vong Embrace of Pain, she has had a creature implanted in her back, but when he tries to heal her, it only causes her pain, the pain causes her to tell him he has always caused her pain and he should get away from her.
Zenoc Quah captures Cade while he is distracted, and Maladi emerges, telling him she wants him to try to heal Deliah. The implant is her new weapon, which is useless if it can be healed. He is reluctant as he has seen the pain healing causes Deliah, and asks what she'll do if he refuses, and she allows Zenoc Quah to torture Deliah, and Cade submits.
On Agamar, the Jedi are awaiting the meeting, and can sense the Imperial Knights a short distance away, and discuss whether Roan Fel can be trusted as he was in charge of the Empire when it struck at Ossus, even though Marisiah has promised them that her father knew nothing about it.
A short distance away, the Knights similarly sense the Jedi, and wonder if they can be trusted and prepare for an ambush, but Treis Sinde questions Antares Draco if there is an ambush, who will be his priority to protect, Roan Fel or Princess Marisiah, his love.
Nearby, Nyna Calixte lands her fighter thinking if either side sees it they will think her an attacker, so she borrows a riding animal from a farmer and sets off to warn them of the attack as the Strike fleet arrives in orbit.
The Jedi and Knights meet, just as Calixte arrives, and they think she's an attacker, but she manages to get recognised and warns them of the incoming Imperial attack.
Meanwhile Wolf Sazen has arrived on Wayland, and he senses Cade reaching out to the Dark Side as he tries to heal Deliah and hopes he can reach him before he is lost forever. . . .

High Points : Maladi's plan actually seems sound, knowing Cade is one of the premier healers in the galaxy, so testing her weapon against his healing ability actually sounds like a good idea. And once again Star Wars demonstrates why Sith and Jedi make terrible generals, the Sith on the Imperial Strike fleet ignores perfectly good advice from the commander of their best squadron that her pilots are more familiar and therefore effective in their current fighters, rather than being put into ships they've never even seen before. And comes back with the well reasoned and thoughtout answer, that she should just do as she is told.

Low Points : After last issue being so confused by jumping between storylines, this one is a lot better, as there seem to be less separate stories going on, and they are beginning to come together and make more sense.
But I'm still left with some confusion about who actually interfered with the Jedi/Vong efforts to restore worlds? Last issue it seemed as if Zenoc Quah was claiming responsibility in the flashbacks, but this issue it's Darth Maladi who is claiming responsibility. It kind of looks like they were working together, but the Vong War ended a hundred or so years ago, and the Vongforming was disrupted around a 10-20 years ago. So how did the two meet, were they working together? There's an entire story here that we're not having explained at all.

So what do you really think ? : They've managed to build a fair load of tension into the storyline, with the attack on Agamar happening while Cade is trying to heal Deliah without falling to the Dark Side. While he's got allies arriving, with Jariah and Wolf not far away, there's still loads which could go wrong. A massive improvement from the early parts of the story, but it'll all be down to the resolution.

Final Words : It's really interesting to see Tries Sinde as the only good Imperial Knight, reminding Roan and Antares of the role of the Imperial Knights in recent issues, he definitely seems far more of a Jedi than an Imperial Knight. I have to admit being intrigued by his history, because something has shaped him into this beyond his Knight training.

Score : 8.5/10

Deliah's comment about Cade always causing her pain - was that out of the moment because of the intense pain, or did she really mean it? If it's the latter, then maybe it's time for them to break up or for Cade to really take a look at himself.

I think it was in the moment, but I've long held the theory that Zeltron's are attracted to Jedi (the way all the females were attracted to Luke over Han in the Marvel comics, and the group of males which followed Leia around), and that Deliah is attracted to Cade not because of who he is, or how he treats her, but because she's basically addicted to his connection to the Force. So this would be a glimpse at the truth.
But I think I'm very much alone of that one.
