Legacy (2013) 7

What is it ? : Jao and Ania skirmish with Yalta and his Stormtroopers, until Jao convinces Yalta to let them go.
Meanwhile on Coruscant, Gar Stazi is met by an irate politician worried about the chao to trade routes around the Dac system, which is unpoliced and abandoned.
On their ship, Ania and Jao sort through data to try to find a lead on Wredd, and Ania spots the face of one of Wredd's followers, and they discover he is called Dieben and was caught but shipped back to his home world for crimes committed there. So they set off for the world of Nalyd.
Arriving, Jao wears casual clothes to avoid drawing attention to his Imperial Knight armour, but they discover that humans are rare, so their race draws attention among the Nalydians.
Meanwhile about AG-37's ship, Sauk discusses his encounter with the other Mon Calamari at the spaceport, and they wonder if anyone really is going back to Dac, with AG-37 confirming that the construction yards while damaged, did survive, so it is possible for people to be returning.
On Nalyd, Ania and Jao locate Dieben, but he has already been tried for his crimes and is in front of a firing squad to be executed. So impulsively, Ania rescues him, with Jao following behind, but although they get away, Dieben is fatally injured in a fall.
On Coruscant, Empress Marisiah is informed of Ania and Jao escaping, and she expresses disappointment in Yalta, and issues the death sentence for disobeying orders on Jao.
The authorities catch up with Ania and Jao, and realising that Dieben is dead comment that they won't be taking him to Dac now, and Ania and Jao exclaim the planets name as they realise it's the next step in their investigation . . . .

High Points : There's a lot of action in this issue, starting with the fight between Jao and Ania, and Yalta and his stormtroopers, then in Ania and Jao breaking Dieben out of his firing squad, and the story doesn't delay in getting Ania and Jao, and AG-37 and Sauk all heading towards the same destination to get the gang back together.

Low Points : But the action seems to be for actions sake, with neither sequence really having any satisfactory conclusion, Yalta just orders his stormtroopers to cease fire and let the other two go, and instead of them making some kind of deal with Dieben, setting him free in exchange for his information, he dies and those in pursuit of the breakout just blab the next clue.
And even though it was obvious that the gang would be getting back together at some point, it was only last issue they separated, and already are set to met back up.
Nothing in this issue matters, it's just pointing them all towards Dac to get on with the story, we even get Gaz Stazi in a fairly pointless conversation to let us know how dangerous the Dac system now is without the rule of law and order.

So what do you really think ? : This is all still just set up, which could have easily been done last issue, without the sidequest to Nalyd, they could have just found out that Dieben was heading there, and as a group decided to go to Dac, partly to track down Wredd, but partly because Sauk is concerned about what is happening to his ruined homeworld.

And I have to ask, who is Dylan. It's obvious that Nalyd is just Dylan spelt backwards, so it just makes me wonder who they're naming planets after. . . .

Final Words : One issue of set up is often how these arc's work in the Dark Horse comics series, but so often they do drag it out to two issues, spending almost as much time setting up the story they want to tell, as they do telling the story, and it's a real disappointment to see this series return to that having learnt nothing from earlier series.

Score : 8/10

This points out one of the problems I have with the Imperial Knights. Jao is doing what he knows is the right and correct thing to do. Marasiah should have faith in her subordinates, not demand unflinching loyalty. And now, she gave him a death sentence. I can see that happening under Palpatine's rule. So what's so different about her?

They're practically laying the foundation for a new Fall of Republic-Clone Wars-Empire-Rebellion timeline.
