What is it ? : Ania struggles through the burning acid rain sheltering under her jacket when AG-37 finds her and carries her to a cave for shelter. Meanwhile Jao is fighting the bounty hunter back at the settlement, when she drops a grenade blasting him away.
AG-37 tells Ania that his weapons are damaged beyond functionality by the acid rain, and he is nearly as well, asking her to shut him down so his memories aren't in danger of being wiped, but just as she does this the Bounty Hunter arrives. Ania flees deeper into the caves, and the bounty hunters laser whip catches her ankle, but she grabs it pulling it out of their hand and tries to turn it on them. However the laser whip only works for someone with a cybernetic hand, like the ones the hunter has.
The hunter removes her helmet, and Ania recognises her as a guard from the prison camp, and she clamps Ania down as she intends to cut of Ania's hand and replace it with her own cybernetic one. Ania asks if she didn't torture her enough back in the camp, and what did Ania do to earn such malice. But the Hunter explains that she's actually grateful to Ania, as no-one dared report to the Sith that a prisoner had escaped, so when the Fel Empire liberated the camp, the guard had just taken Ania's identity and replaced her to be released. It wasn't until an Imperial Knight tracked her down, she was forced to kill him and needs to frame Ania for the murder so she can once again be free. Summoning her Tie Bomber with a remote control.
Jao arrives, and overhears, so leaps to Ania's defence, cutting off the Bounty Hunters hand as they fight. Ania grabs the remote control for the Tie Bomber and brings it in smashing the hunter against the rocks killing her. But Stormtroopers arrive and arrest Ania.
As the storm clears and Sauk lands their ship, he finds Jao dragging out AG-37's deactivated body, and asks Jao where Ania is. Jao explains what happened, and tells Sauk that he couldn't stop it as the Stormtroopers were just following orders, which is why the ignored arresting Jao as well, as they hadn't been ordered to.
On Coruscant, Ania is taken straight from the Shuttle to a Military Tribunal, and finds that Yalta Val is going to stand as her defence. He explains that the evidence is all circumstantial, but Antares Draco as part of the Tribunal explains that the murdered Knight had tracked Ania to the Opoku system, and a human woman was seen leaving the site of the murder. Val counters with the fact that the Knight was murdered with a Laser Whip, which can only be controlled by a Cybernetic hand, and Ania has no cybernetics.
One of the Tribunal members questions why they were never told this, and why Ania a civilian is in front of a military Tribunal. But the final member dismisses Val's testimony as Ania saved his life, so thinks he is in her debt,
Draco demands evidence that the Bounty Hunter had a cybernetic hand, and Jao enters the court with the hand he severed from the Bounty Hunter, and the case is dismissed.
Outside Ania celebrates with AG-37 and Sauk, but Yalta Val explains that Jao is paying the ultimate price, as coming to the court means he has been arrested for desertion, and the sentence is death.
In the cells, Jao sits alone, when Darth Wredd comes to him, offering him a lightsaber, and a way out. . . . .
High Points : A fantastic ending to this story arc, and a great launch into the next one. We get the story with the bounty hunter explained, and they do explain all my problems I had last issue, how she took Ania's identity to avoid punishment for the crimes she had done as a prison guard. AG-37 is put out of action in an elegant fashion, damaged by the acid rain, and the court scene is tense as it appears to be a completely kangaroo court that won't listen to evidence.
Low Points : But the court is a major problem for me, Ania is a civilian so shouldn't be tried before the military court, and isn't given any time to prepare for the case, and they ignore the only real evidence (that the crime was done with a weapon she couldn't possibly use) while taking vague evidence (the victim was looking for Ania, and a human woman was seen leaving the scene of the crime). Is this really the standard for justice in the Galactic Federation Triumvirate?
And even the evidence that Jao brings which sets Ania free barely counts as evidence. He hands over a cybernetic hand, which only proves that he cut off someone's hand. There's nothing to link that particular hand to the crime.
They just seem to take Jao's word for it, but won't take Yalta Val's word, because apparently Val owes Ania his life, so his testimony can be ignored, but Jao who is a deserter who ran away with Ania, is completely reliable.
So what do you really think ? : While the court scene annoys me, it does make the Galactic Federation Triumvirate seem like they're hostile to Ania, so adds tension on top of the fight against the Bounty Hunter which takes up most of the issue. A really enjoyable read, and we're left on a cliffhanger with Jao's life being saved by Darth Wredd of all people, but he has been hinting that Jao was going to become his apprentice, so we return to the main plot with drama and only 3 issues to go.
Final Words : If they're trying to build some tension that Jao is going to turn to the Dark Side, they haven't really managed it. Jao can't feel to aggrieved at being in jail, he flew back to Coruscant knowing that was what was going to happen, so it's just a matter of how the whole situation is going to tie up over the next 3 issues.
