Legacy (2013) 18

What is it ? : The battle rages on, countless Sith and Imperial Knights have fallen littering the surface of the planet, and Ania and Sauk wonder why they're still alive amongst this, but quickly realise they are too inoffensive to be considered a target.
Antares Drace realises that it's as if every Sith which went into hiding at the end of the war has returned here, but while he's communicating this to Marisiah he is stabbed from behind by a Sith. Marisiah decides to join the battle as the Knights need every lightsaber they can get.
Ania aids Draco, until Marisiah arrives with a medical droid, and as the fighting continues, Ania grabs a powerful blaster rifle and takes out a Sith vessel with it.
They notice that Wredd is killing numerous Sith, but Marisiah knows that he is just motivated by not doing good, but by his hatred of the other Sith.
The battle ends, with the Knights being triumphant, and they begin searching for survivors, their own to give medical aid to, and the Sith to finish off, and Marisiah gives a rousing speech and looks on as Draco is evacuated. But while she is distracted, Wredd stabs her from behind, leading Jao to chase after him.
Jao catches Wredd and they fight, with Jao realising that Wredd has done this to anger him and turn him to the Dark Side, and he cuts Wredd's hands off, but pauses over killing him. Wredd pleads with him to kill him, as he believes the Sith must end here, but as Jao pauses Ania blasts Wredd killing him.
Marisiah is evacuated and prepped for a Bacta tank, and Sauk asks why Wredd did it, did he remember he was a Sith at the last minute. Jao says no, Wredd was motivated by his own hatred for the Sith for what they'd done to his homeworld, and was too far gone to consider redemption, but nearly created a new Sith by his own actions. Ania comforts him, telling him there's no way he would have fallen to the Dark Side, while Sauk mentions Ania might have, but she says there's no need for the Force when you've got a good blaster at your side.
Marisiah calls for Yalta Val, who tells her the Sith are defeated, but she doubts this.
Later on Coruscant, Ania visits Marisiah in her medical suite, and is offered the position of Marisiah's the Captain of Marisiah's personal guard, but Ania refuses and asks for mercy for Jao instead.
The group meets at AG-37's ship, and discover that Marisiah is reforming the Imperial Knights to not be directly to the Empress any more, and that Yalta Val will be remaining as a teacher to new Imperial Knights. Jao joins the group officially and they decide to leave Coruscant.
One Year Later, Sauk is buying a part for their ship from Jariah Syn who take the money back to his group Cade Skywalker and Deliah Blue, and when Sauk rejoins the group they're in the middle of a fight . . . .

High Points : So it all comes to an end, and very neat end, the Sith are all defeated, the heroes are off heroing, and the Imperial Knights and Princess Marisiah who have always been so morally conflicted are reformed and the most moral knight is in charge of the next generation of them.
There's some good banter in here, with Sauk especially getting in some good lines,

Low Points : But that ending is a little too neat to be believable.
ALL the Sith came to deal with Wredd? Why didn't we see any of the major faces who we know survived, Darth Talon, Darth Malady, Darth Nihl, or Darth Havok, especially given that Havok had personal ties to Antares Draco and Princess Marisiah? We're really supposed to believe that Malady just charged into combat waving a lightsaber about, rather than unleashing some virus or plague? The Sith really felt it necessary to all come out of hiding to deal with one rogue apprentice?
Wredd who wasn't powerful enough to defeat his own nameless master, is powerful enough to fight all the Sith?
And we're supposed to believe that without the Sith as an enemy, the Imperial Knights and Empress Marisiah will suddenly start behaving nicely and ethically from now on?
And where the hell were the other two factions that make up the Galactic Federation Triumvirate, the fleet and the Jedi just sat out the final defeat of the Sith?
And for that point, the Sith took their fleet of incredibly powerful Dragon Cruisers into hiding with them, but then turn up in civilian ships? Where did they go?

And while I'm kicking a story when it's down, why the hell did they feel it was necessary to bring Cade and his gang back at the very end of Ania's story?

So what do you really think ? : Yes, it tidily wraps up Ania's story, but without making any sense. And the story really becomes Jao's and Marisiah's at the end, Ania is involved, but AG-37 and Sauk the standout characters from this series barely get any involvement. It'd have been nice to get AG-37 paying off his debt to the Solo bloodline, and sticking with Ania due to friendship, or Sauk's engineering skills being vital to the storyline.

Final Words : And Legacy 2013 comes to an end, but a kind of disappointing one as it makes little sense. It would have been far more interesting to have not made the victory over the Sith as decisive, so many of these threads would still be dangling.

BUT.

I totally get why all of this was done. As this isn't just the last issue of Legacy 2013, it isn't just the last story told in the Legacy era, it was in fact the last issue of Star Wars published by Dark Horse under their licence (they got another licence in 2022, but for nearly a decade this was the end). So the writers wanted to wrap everything up, their stories weren't going to get continued, so they wanted to tie everything up neatly. But universes rarely work like that, knowing that Ania is off having new adventures, seeing Cade and his gang having new stories of their own is cool, but a certain amount of tension, missing Sith, some drama between the Jedi and the Knights (who basically seem to be the same thing now) would be interesting. The bad guys were beaten, but the galaxy remains an exciting place.

Score : 8.5/10

Marasiah doesn't believe the Sith are gone. This could be taken in two ways, and in both cases, she'd be right. Are the Sith gone for now? Are the Sith gone forever? I don't know about the first one, as for the second one - take a look at history.

She says that, yet a couple of pages later
"I hear that the Empress is reorganising the Knights. That loyalty will not be due to the Empress alone, now the Sith are gone."

So if she doesn't believe the Sith are gone, why is she reorganising the Knights?

And as always, Sith writings and teaching still exist in the Galaxy, so even if all the Sith are dead, they can be reborn if someone finds and reads those teachings.
