Star Wars: Visions: Season 3: Episode 5: Yukos Treasure

What is it ? : A child, Yuko, has a nightmare of a disaster in space as a vessel is attacked by Vulture Droids, and wakens rushing to it's guardian a large droid which looks like a teddy bear, BILY. The droid is going out to sell water, and its the Yuko's birthday so he says he'll get her a present, but she'd prefer him to just spend the day with her.
He goes into Mos Eisley and sells his water to some Jawas, and begins shopping for a toy for Yuko, when he is approached by a child, Sola, who is showing a picture of two adult humans who he claims are his parents, but BILY denies knowing them, but suspiciously walks away. Sola watches him, and Yuko comes barrelling into the town on her speeder bike, and BILY takes her home, with Sola following.
He records them arriving at their home and goes to meet some pirates showing them the image of another droid that Yuko has, which matches one in the background of the image of the two humans. The pirates want revenge of the humans for supposedly robbing them, but Sola isn't happy that they will hurt people and not just retrieve what they've lost.
He rushes to their home to tells them, but arrives as the pirates do, whose ship blasts the building, the pirates take BILY to find the lost treasure if they agree to not hurt Yuko.
But after they take him, Yuko sets out to follow as there is a tracker inside BILY, and Sola agrees to help. They come to a cave deep in the desert where other droids similar to the one in the image are building something.
Inside the leader of the pirates gets BILY to lead them to a vault, but it won't open for them, so the leader sends his forces away to get Yuko.
Sola and Yuko travel down in a lift deep into the construction, encountering a massive creature which chases them, but they encounter the pirates and they all end up fleeing the creature.
It smashes through into the room with the vault, the creature tumbles down into a pit, but the pirate leader has reprogrammed BILY and gets him to menace Yuko until she opens the chamber for them. The chamber contains only a single credit chip, but the pirates can't concentrate on this too long as the creature climbs back from the pit and chases them off.
BILY is wearing a helmet and black cloak continues to attack Yuko, but she manages to remove the helmet which is controlling him. He takes her into the vault which is now empty, and reveals that there is a hidden lift, so they take it down to a cavern which contains a house. This is where Yuko was raised by her parents and holograms play showing her scenes from her life, BILY shows her the graves of her parents, telling her that he was going to show her this when she was an adult.
In a side chamber there is a starship, and considering Sola part of the family now, BILY shows the pair how to fly the ship and they fly off into space. . . .

High Points : Now there are a bunch of things I liked about this episode, Tattoine as it's setting let us get into the life that Yuko and BILY were living very easily. I liked BILY as well, a droid guardian / nursemaid, designed to look like a cuddly teddy bear, no sharp metal edges for a child to hurt themselves on.
I was amused by BILY's reprogramming taking the form of a Darth Vader like black helmet and cloak, and the scene where Sola and Yuko first enter the deep caves and are followed by the massive creature, which flattens itself against the ceiling when they turn around in a very cartoon like fashion.

Low Points : This feels more like it's for kids than Young Jedi Adventures, it feels childish, and while it has fun moments, things just happen in it for no reason. Why are the pirates so sure that this kid has the right place that they bombard it from their ship? What is the treasure the pirates are after, the hidden home and starship is a treasure to Yuko, but not to the pirates? Have they just somehow heard that the parents had a treasure for their kid, and just wanted it, so the story about the parents robbing them was a lie? BILY tells Yuko her parents were heroes, taking medical aid to people on the rim, but were they? Where did the small construction droids come from, and what are they building?
And lots of the action scenes, while fun, are really just scooby doo like scenes of people running away from the creature. Also what the heck were the side kicks of the pirate? And them tumbling, along with the Twilek sidekick of the pirate captain, into a deep hole presumably to their deaths is just fine?

So what do you really think ? : I didn't like this one, it was childish, didn't make a lot of sense, and isn't something I'll ever return to.

Final Words : I suppose at least it tried something different, a kids story (although with Young Jedi Adventures existing, it's not different at all), but I just found it bland. There was nothing new of exciting in the plot and storytelling. It's presented very nicely, and they obviously got lots of Star Wars references in there (Vulture Droids, Tatooine, Jawa's, etc), but I just didn't like it.

Score : 7/10

Definitely has its cute moments, but not a favorite.

Way to childish for me, did like BILY though (although have to admit until we were told he was a droid, I never even considered it, I just thought he was a cutesy alien species).
