The High Republic: Fear of the Jedi: 1

What is it ? : Near the Nihil Occlusion Zone, a freighter is getting attacked by Nihil Raiders, when Keeve Trennis and Sskeer come to their rescue, Sskeer berates Keeve for her unconventional way of doing things, and she complains when he mentions her new title, Marshal. They force the raiders to retreat back into the Occlusion Zone.
Meanwhile on the Nihil Occupied world of Naboo, within the Occlusion Zone, Tey Sirrek, Lourna Dee, and Quin Carree meet up with Yarzion Vell and Kelnacca as they form an alliance to free the planet from the Nihil.
Back aboard the Gios, Keeve and Sskeer meet up with Orbalin and Cibaba, before communicating with Avar Kriss. They discuss using Cibaba against the Nihil, even though he is still severely mentally damaged from being experimented on by Baron Boolan. Keeve is against it, but bows to pressure from Kriss and the Jedi Council. After she leaves, Sskeer and Kriss discuss how Keeve has become a remarkable Jedi, but Sskeer worries that she doesn't know it.
Back on Naboo, the rebels are breaking into the Royal Palace, and the Jedi think they sense the Nameless, when Tey Sirrek sees his husband in the shadows and freezes, while Lourna Dee sees herself as Tempest Runner leaping towards her to remind her of who she really is. . . .

High Points : It feels nice to be back with these characters once again, Keeve and Sskeer have settled into old patterns, with Keeve taking the lead as she always did, with Sskeer providing counsel and advice.

Low Points : But the story seems to be all over the place, so many things have happened since we last saw them, that the story seems disjointed and rushing towards it's end. Keeve last time we saw her was returning from rescuing Sskeer, on an unsanctioned mission, but she seems to have been promoted since then. Avar Kriss likewise had been on an unsanctioned mission within the occlusion zone, and she's now returned and is on the Jedi High Council. Sskeer who was irrational and damaged, now is completely rational. And I can't find where these things happened, I even went and read the Dispatches from the Occlusion Zone series, thinking it might at least fill us in on the Avar Kriss storyline, but she was barely mentioned in it.

So what do you really think ? : While the story seems good enough, I'm just so thrown by everyone being moved around that I can't keep track of it. It just feels rushed as they move towards ending the story and time period. The High Republic, this grand new entry in the Star Wars timeline, is being closed down, and they're just rushing to tie everything up in the few issues they have left.

Final Words : So we've got 5 issues of Fear of the Jedi, and then Finale to go. 6 Issues to wrap up this entire storyline, to end the war against the Nihil, and from what they've put in this issue, I don' think it's going to wrap up tidily, in fact I think it's going to be a bit of a mess. But we shall see.

Score : 7.5/10
