The High Republic: Fear of the Jedi: 4

What is it ? : Keeve freezes unsure how to deal with the situation where the fleet is being attacked by numerous Nameless, including a giant one. The viewport smashes in as the giant Nameless latches onto the Gios, and Keeve holds the atmosphere in using the Force as Rhil Dairo, the journalist, scrambles to raise a containment field to seal the breach.
The fighters outside battle the Nameless as another of Orbalin's duplicates is killed.
Tey Sirrek is blasted by the vision he sees of his husband Vildar Mac using the Hand of Siberus, drawing Vildar Mac's lightsaber he stole at the same time he took the Hand.
As they finish raising the containment field, Rhil hears distress calls coming in from across the fleet, where pilots are saying they're being attacked by Nameless, by Colossus Wasps, by Exogorths, by Summa-Verminoths, and they realise none of this is real, that they are facing another Fear Engine.
Cibaba, being a former Child of the Storm, reaches out using the Force and locates Sister H'tar using a larger Fear Engine. They realise that the illusions cannot be damaging their ships, so see past their fears and realise that they are being torn apart by Scav droids, including a massive one which is attacking the Gios. . . .

High Points : The action is well portrayed, and it moves along at a good pace, but . . .

Low Points : This all feels so repetitive, Tey facing an illusion of his husband, the Jedi facing off against illusions of enemies, we saw this exact situation (not including starships) 2 issues ago on Eriadu. And them facing off against illusions and fears is exactly what the Nameless did to them many times before, while it's good the heroes can finally defeat it when they realise what's going on, it's just the same old, same old.

So what do you really think ? : If this is the big ending to the Nihil war, it's going out with a whimper not a roar. We're just stuck in a repetitive loop where the Jedi are facing their fears again and again. While it's the name of this series, so makes sense it would be dealt with, it would be interesting if we'd seen various heroes facing off against individual fears, so we could see them rally and overcome. But Tey fears his dead husband, while everyone else fears monsters. Couldn't we see something strange and unique for Orbalin, have Sskeer revisiting his time as part of the Drengir, which would help tie the entire series together.

Final Words : Well, one issue to go of this series, and they're facing some Scav droids, including a big one. It hardly feels like the end of the series, but I suppose we've got finale to go as well, so perhaps there will be some real resolution to come.

Score : 7/10
