Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures: Season 2: Story 23: Raxlo to the Rescue
What is it ? : The Young Jedi are on Andraven with their friends Jam and Gumar Adraki, riding Wellagrins, when they encounter Raxlo. He has discovered gems on the planet which can be used to provide energy for the inhabitants, and he points out, make a healthy profit on them as well.
The inhabitants look on him as a hero as he's improving their quality of life, when the Ganguls arrive to steal Raxlo's harvester so they can profit off the gems. The Young Jedi fight them but are trapped inside energy cages, so Raxlo feeling brave from being called a hero faces the Ganguls and is caught in a cage as well.
After they have been freed, Raxlo chases his harvester into the caves to prove he is a hero, and knowing his harvester, clambers up it and removes the mining head, stopping it harvesting more gems. The impact of the head causes the cave to shake and begin to collapse, so the Ganguls take the harvester back outside, leaving the Young Jedi to rescue a now dispirited Raxlo.
The Young jedi tell him he doesn't need to be a hero like them, he can use his brains to be a hero, and he advises those outside via comlink to set off a snowball down the mountain, which will snowball into a giant snowball. They do this and it crashes into the harvester disabling it.
The Ganguls attempt to repair the harvester, but everyone throws snowballs at them until they retreat and leave in their starship. Raxlo declares himself a hero worthy of worship, and a big snowball fight incurs. . . .
High Points : I have admit I'd kind of forgotten that Raxlo had been redeemed, but it was nice to see him back, and being allowed to be a capitalist and profit from helping the people of Andraven.
Low Points : But the Ganguls again, and do they have any threatening status left, they're beaten by snowballs, hardly a rough group of pirates that are a danger to the galaxy.
So what do you really think ? : While it was nice to see Raxlo back, this is a weak episode, reliant on Snowballs being the ultimate form of weapons. Sad the Rebels never tried that on Hoth.
But here they're so powerful that the snowball rolled down the side of the mountain, bends the solid metal wheels of the harvester, and prove powerful enough to defeat a group of armed pirates.
Final Words : So the message of the episode I think is that "you can be a hero without being a fighter, just by doing the right thing and using your brain". But I'm worried the message was also, "turn up to a gunfight with snowballs, it'll work out".
