Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures: Season 2: Story 31: Best Bounty Buddies

What is it ? : The Young Jedi are in Kublop Springs when a rat runs past them, chased by Ansen Strong. They help him capture it, but encounter an old friend of his, another bounty hunter by the name of Rhugo Tar. He's hunting for a target, a thief by the name of Sty Trune, and asks for Ansen's help, who agrees and brings the young jedi along.
They take Ansen's ship as Rhugo's was damaged in the fight that caused Sty to crash on the world of Aludia.
Arriving they find the wreckage of Sty's ship, and Ansen and the Young Jedi prove they are great hunters by finding Sty's tracks. Following them they find Sty trapped, Rhugo approaches Sty to cut him down, but is distracted by arguing with Ansen, allowing Sty to grab the knife and cut himself free, but he is cornered by the Young Jedi.
Realising that Ansen and the Young Jedi are interested in animals, Sty distracts them by saying he sees a rare animal, and escapes heading to Ansens ship to steal it. The Young Jedi catch up with him just outside the ship, but Ansen and Rhugo so keen to prove each other the better fire a net and a set of bolas, which both trap the Young Jedi allowing Sty to board the ship.
Aboard he realises the controls are custom and has problems operating the ship, but working together Ansen and Rhugo disable the ship before it can leave, and gas Sty outside where the capture him again.
Later, Rhugo thanks Ansen for his help, and admits an admiration for his tracking skills, inviting him to help on future hunting operations. . . .

High Points : A simple enough little episode, Ansen has become an animal hunter instead of a bounty hunter, and an old friend mocks him for the change. The banter between the two is childish, but allows the Young Jedi to be the adults, getting the two to work together, which although a bit silly, makes sense to keep the young heroes the centre of the show.

Low Points : But surely Ansen is capturing creatures for a bounty or other payment, so is still a bounty hunter, and why has he given up normal bounty hunting? Is capturing bad guys for money somehow morally wrong in the Young Jedi universe?
And the skills he displays, are surely normal ones for a bounty hunter anyway? Smoking a target out of cover? Following tracks? They seem fairly normal skills for a bounty hunter to have.

So what do you really think ? : The story is fast moving, but annoyingly silly. While it might amuse kids, it only does so by making the adult characters childish, to make the child characters look adult in comparison. Why is it only the Jedi who are allowed to be adult in this universe.

Final Words : And the moral of this episode is, unclear, as it might be work with others as everyone has something to contribute, or it might be everyone has something to learn off other people.

Score : 7/10
