Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures: Season 2: Story 32: The Rainy Day Beast
What is it ? : The Young Jedi are ready to go out into the forest to find a rare animal that Lys is excited to see, but they open the door and it's hammering down by rain. Kai offers to find her a different adventure to have, and they go the library where their noise disturbs some other students, but Lys doesn't want to read as her adventure.
When Kai is looking for something else to do, a book falls and Lys examines it, to find it's talking about a creature that lives in the tree that the Jedi Temple is built around, The Guardian of the Tenoo Jedi Temple, so they decide to see if they can find it.
Going to the tree, they attempt to find it, disturbing some meditating students in their attempt, but fail, so climb to the roof of the Temple. There they find the branches of the tree are easy to find, but once among the canopy of the tree Lys falls through into the lair of the beast itself, but the beast doesn't rouse until Kai and Nubs also fall through.
Enraged by being awoken, the beast chases them, until it becomes trapped by it's tail, hanging precariously above a fall. Lys, Kai and Nubs use the Force to lift it, and it becomes friendly. Lys apologises for wakening it, and it returns to it's slumber.
Returning into the temple, they are met by Master Zia Zaldor Zanna, who asks if they know what all the noise was, and Lys tells her everything, causing Master Zanna to reveal that she knew of the beast, having met it when she first came to the Temple. They ask her what other stories of the Temple she has, and they settle down for a rainy day of stories with the Master. . . .
High Points : A nice little story of them discovering another secret of the Tenoo Temple, something which was hinted at in the past, as the Temple has been abandoned for some time before being reactivated at the start of the series. However, this is kind of forgotten about at the end, as it seems to hint that Master Zanna sought the Guardian when she was just a student at the Temple, but she never was, she first came here only the year before with the Young Jedi and their class.
Low Points : I'm also a little confused as to why the beast is called the Guardian of the Temple, as when awoken it seeks to harm the Young Jedi, which isn't a very Guardian thing to do.
So what do you really think ? : I enjoyed this one, the idea of it being the story of a rainy day in really worked, the Young Jedi can't go out to do anything, so must find their entertainment at home, which luckily contains a large beast in hibernation.
Final Words : And the message of this one, Fun can be found wherever you are, especially if your home is riddled with rampaging monsters.
Score : 8/10
