Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures: Season 3: Story 7: Scrapping for a Song

What is it ? : The Young Jedi are on Bracca with Nash and Eren Kitt looking for a Vio-Harp for Nash's mums birthday. They spot one in the distance, but before they can get to it another scrapper collects it and leaves on their speeder.
Nash decides to go after it, but the Young Jedi decide to split up to see whether they can find any other musical instruments which might do instead. Kai and Beepers find one, but it has already been claimed by a small alien, who agrees to race for it. Kai races with the alien, but the archway of trash they're racing towards begins to collapse, but Kai makes it through winning the race and the instrument.
Nubs and Dozer find a trapped Pikpik and help free him, and the Pikpiks advise that another instrument might be found somewhere in a massive pile of trash, and with the help of the Pikpik's they find another instrument.
Finally, Lys and Gig find an instrument but it is dragged off by a small animal, they follow and discover the animal is going to use it as a nest for it's eggs, but it is too small. So Lys offers a crate which would serve better, and takes the instrument in return.
Nash and Eren think they've lost the Vio-Harp, but Nash spots the scrapper they're looking for, and they catch up with her. She didn't even know she had the vio-harp and offers it to them before leaving. Nash celebrates, but drops the Vio-Harp, and spots it stuck to some other trash, and when she goes to collect it, Eren shouts a warning.
But Nash ignores it, and it is revealed that the Vio-Harp is stuck to a Mygora, a large creature which builds a shell out of the scrap on Bracca. Once an item is part of the Mygora's shell it never lets them go. The Young Jedi try to distract the Mygora until Nash can escape, but in their rescue of her the Vio-Harp is dropped and the Mygora adds it back to it's shell.
They take the instruments to the Birthday party for Nash's mother, and she is delighted to have three instruments as it means that she, her partner and Nash can jam together, which they do.

High Points : A nice little story, although even for Young Jedi Adventures it feels pretty unimportant, but it nicely gives each character their own moment, Kai racing on his speeder, Lys dealing with a wild animal, and Nubs lifting heavy things.

Low Points : Nash is doing her birthday shopping at the galactic dump? It's a good message for recycling, but hoping to find the perfect present in piles of trash seems pretty optimistic, surely there should be a reason why things got thrown out?
The Mygora just seems to suit the story a little too much, a sticky creature which sticks trash to it's back, and doesn't let that trash go.

So what do you really think ? : The episode passes quickly, by breaking down into segments focusing on each of the Young Jedi, so it doesn't dwell on any of their problems, so each only takes a couple of minutes. The Mygora isn't an interesting opponent for the Young Jedi, and Nash's quest itself seems pretty pointless, but it moves quickly and entertains.

Final Words : And the moral of the episode seems to be that the joy of gifting is in the giving itself, not in finding the perfect present. Or it could be, when you're bin raking, you shouldn't be picky.

Score : 7/10
