What is it ? : The First Order attacks Naboo, and Kylo questions Hux as to how the invasion is going, and Hux tells him the people are cowed before the might of the First Order.
Later on the surface the First Order is attacked by Kylo in disguise using a blaster rifle and some fancy kung fu moves, and using the force to seize control of a walker.
The people ask him how he did it, and he offers to show them, leading a meeting in a cellar beneath the city. The people take his words and remember the stories of the Resistance and Leia standing up to the First Order, but Kylo tells them the resistance was decimated. Someone in the crowd then questions whether the First Order might be good for Naboo, the way the Empire was good for Naboo, but Kylo tells them that "Kylo Ren" will take everything from them.
He leads them on several attacks on the First Order, taking out a walker crossing a bridge, and ambushing stormtroopers on one of the tight streets of Spinnaker.
Later he contacts Hux to question how the invasion is going, and Hux tells him of minor resistance in Spinnaker, and when questioned how he is going to deal with it, Hux tells Kylo that he is going to bring in a Siege Dreadnaught to destroy the city, a move Kylo approves.
Kylo pretends to have contacts within the First Order and informs his resistance that the Dreadnaught is coming, but that it has weaknesses, so as the Dreadnaught moves into position, a fleet of starfighters, from Naboo Starfighters to Uglies attack. Under Kylo's direction they move beneath the Dreadnaught where it has no anti-starfighter weapons, and Hux orders in reinforcements from orbit.
Meanwhile Vanee taunts Kylo, saying that Vader often hated himself as well, but Kylo threatens Vanee enraged by his comments, so tells him of a chamber within Vaders Castle which will make Kylo more powerful. But he says he would rather die than give that power to someone unworthy, so Kylo must prove himself against a foe worthy of him.
Agreeing, Kylo orders the First Order to withdraw moments before the Siege Dreadnaught destroys the city, and Kylo is soon surrounded by celebrating members of his resistance, who tell him that the people of Naboo will never forget what he did for them. So he slaughters the resistance with his lightsaber, leaving the cellar strewn with their corpses, demanding that Vanee find him a foe worthy of him, which Vanee say he thinks he has the thing. . . .
High Points : The entire theme of this issue I find extremely interesting, as Kylo uses the education he received from his parents and family, about being part of the rebellion fighting against the Empire, to lead a resistance cell against the First Order. But even in this he cheats, unable to lead the resistance successfully against the First Order, he contacts Hux to discover what their plans are, so he can work against them.
Low Points : While it totally fits with his character, Kylo wiping out the resistance through a temper tantrum makes little sense, but often Kylo's actions make little sense as he reacts to things rather than planning them out.
And the design of the Siege Dreadnaught seems fairly poor, it has starfighter defences only on it's upper surface, which makes sense if it's only going to get attacked by starfighters arriving to help a planet under attack, but little sense as in this case when starfighters are getting launched from the surface to defend the planet. To have exactly zero anti-starfighter weapons on it's lower surface, and no starfighter wing of it's own is very Star Wars, but very stupid.
So what do you really think ? : I enjoyed this one, the idea of Kylo learning something by acting as his parents as resistance against the First Order I liked, but it's done and over when I think I would have liked the story to hang around Naboo some more. It makes a nice backdrop for fighting the First Order, and the worlds history, especially it's connection to his grandmother feels like it could have been explored more, perhaps showing more characters from the Trade Federation invasion, showing they also know how to fight an occupation. There really seems material there which the comic just ignored, making Naboo into a generic world which really could have been anywhere (with nice italian architecture).
Final Words : While it's called Legacy of Vader, the series really does seem to have Kylo almost accidentally playing the roles of his family, taking his grandmothers royal titles, his parents activities as rebels, Kylo really seems to be a product of his family more than just Vader. Vader who is virtually absent from this issue, there's no history and nothing which resembles Vaders path at all.
The story really seems set to prove Kylo wrong in destroying his history, as it's so embedded into his character that he can only try to ignore it.
