Legacy of Vader: Reign of Kylo Ren: Part 6

What is it ? : The First Order is attacking Corellia, Hux has made a detailed plan which is going perfectly and he begins giving an inspiring speech to his forces that they are all heroes together. But a sensor operator informs him that Supreme Leader Kylo Ren has arrived in his starfighter and what he is doing is beautiful.
Kylo leads an attack, which disrupts the plan which Hux has in place, but Hux orders his people to follow Kylo as they should not question the decisions of the supreme leader. His attack takes out the control centre for the Corellian forces winning the attack.
Afterwards the forces of the First Order are cheering Kylo on his throne, he comments on this making Hux feel small, but tells him his job is not to feel large. But he tells him that he did well with the throne, and orders him to meet later.
Hux reports to Kylo on the status of the invasion, and afterwards questions his actions in the attack, saying that without warning of his actions things could have gone wrong, but Kylo won't accept being chastised by his inferior, dismissing Hux.
Vanee contacts him, informing him that he has found a foe worthy of Kylo, a Jedi.
They arrive on the world of Lahtee, small homes clustered together against the cold in large forests, and Vanee tells Kylo about the Jedi purges, but this Jedi they only discovered when Vader was already too busy tracking down Luke on the orders of Palpatine.
Vanee sends Kylo on alone, telling him that the thrill of the hunt is something he needs to experience, and Kylo agrees, saying he will take the Jedi's head and bring it back for Vanee (who himself is just a head in a jar connected to a droid body) and perhaps they can be friends.
Kylo walks through a dark forest road, arriving at a village and enters the cantina, he asks if anyone has seen someone strange, which the bartender jokes, other than you? Kylo instantly gets angry using the force to hurl the contents of the bar around. But his lightsaber levitates over to an old Theelin woman who activates it, commenting that his Kyber crystal is cracked and he probably wants to get that looked at, before telling him they should talk . . . .

High Points : The look of Lahtee I absolutely adore, little homes in the snow, amongst the forests, it's basically planet Christmas, and the artwork is astounding. Because it's very Northern European in it's styling, not just winter settings which as commented are very Christmassy, but also that feeling of darkness, and things hiding in the woods. It doesn't do anything with that feeling, but manages to get a feeling of danger for Kylo merely by showing him walking through the woods for an entire page.
I liked the moment where Kylo is trying to be reasonable, asking if anyone has seen anything peculiar in the village cantina, but as soon as there's any resistance to his questioning, the very slightest joking at his expense, he has a tantrum and begins wrecking the place. He tries to do something different to normal, but gives up in what we're seeing is a very Kylo Ren way.
It's also nice to see the continuing tension building between Kylo and Hux, as Hux is running the First Order, leading it to successes, then Kylo swoops in and claims it as his triumph. Although unless they make something of it in this series, I don't think we needed to see the origin of Hux's betrayal in Rise of Skywalker, we already took it for granted from what we'd seen on screen.

Low Points : I also question that Kylo is a charismatic leader, leading the First Order to victory with the cheering of his forces behind him, as they declare his piloting to be "beautiful". He's the guy who has tantrums and wrecks rooms, that Stormtroopers know to avoid when he's angry. Why his forces would celebrate him and raise him up, when Hux was telling them they are all heroes, it seems like they're just convinced that they're too rubbish, so they should celebrate their leader for turning up at the last minute and recklessly leading a charge against the enemy.

So what do you really think ? : The issue feels like it's a bit all over the place, last issue had them withdrawing from Naboo, now they're instantly into the invasion of Corellia. I know Hux was already planning this attack, but going from one invasion into another is a bit jarring, especially as then Kylo just turns up in his starfighter to help out.
And once that's dealt with, we're back to Vanee having done what he said he would do last issue, in finding an opponent worthy of Kylo fighting. It's just like Kylo turned up to ruin Hux's day, and then is off again.

Final Words : And we've got another Jedi who survived order 66, someone for Kylo to challenge himself against, but they want to talk first. I'll be interested if they actually make this character tie into the Legacy of Vader by being connected to Anakin, or whether merely by being a surviving Jedi they are considered part of his legacy.

Score : 8/10
