Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures: Season 1: Story 17: The Princess and the Jedi

What is it ? : Nash and RJ-83 are frantically scrubbing and cleaning her ship when the Young Jedi arrive responding to her call for help, she tells them that she wants to get the ship clean because she is to transport a Princess home with a present she has bought her father.
The Princess arrives and turns out to be normal, and a fan of starships, with knowledge and skills with them that she doesn't usually get to use because of her high status.
They take off, and are intercepted by Taborr, who wants the present as he assumes it is valuable. After a few shots, Nash's ship is disabled and has to land for repairs.
While they are busy, Taborr steals the present, and the princess sneaks onto his ship to retrieve it.
Without the ship being repaired they cannot pursue Taborr, but find the princess has used her skills to override his controls and causes his ship to crash.
Getting aboard Taborrs ship, he confronts them with an electrostaff and a short fight breaks out, being ended when the princess sabotages the door controls locking Taborr in his own ship.
They return to Nash's ship with the present and leave, Nash is impressed by the Princesses now-proven knowledge of ships, so lets her pilot, inviting them all to her fathers party, but they refuse saying they need to return to the Jedi Temple. . . .

High Points : A speedy little tale of not judging others due to their station, where the Princess turns out to be a smart capable individual instead of an indolent aristocrat. That said, the only characters we've really seen in Star Wars who are royalty are Amidala and Leia, who are both smart capable individuals instead of indolent aristocrats, which makes me wonder if actually that's the standard in the Star Wars universe.

Low Points : Nash spends the episode judging the Princess due to her station, first worrying that her ship isn't clean enough and then doubting her abilities, but we've never really seen Nash act deferential to people before. She's the cocky renegade character who doesn't conform and teaches the kids that it's okay to think for themselves. But here she's acting totally different, just to teach us that rich people can be normal too.
I'm really not sure of the value of this particular lesson this time.

So what do you really think ? : I'd just started thinking that we hadn't seen Taborr in a while, and here he turns up, but really isn't the focus of the episode, just serving the purpose of generic bad guy.

Final Words : There's nothing much to this episode really, if feels as if young Leia has been transported in and does everything so the main characters can learn to respect the nobility. It's a weird message, and really light on story and action.

Score : 7.5/10
