Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures: Season 1: Story 44: The Team Up

What is it ? : The explorer droid 0G-LC is returning to Tenoo in his starship, the Star Seeker, when he comes under attack from Taborr Val Dorrn and his Iron Talon. The ship is shot down, and Taborr takes the cargo which contains artefacts to be delivered to the Jedi Temple.
The Young Jedi arrive afterwards, and quickly decide that the only place that Taborr would sell his loot is Yarrum Tower.
At Yarrum Tower, Taborr is trying to sell the artefacts, boasting they were destined for the Jedi Temple, which attracts the attention of the Comet Runners, a famous gang of pirates which Taborr aspires to be like. The Comet Runners take the cargo, calling Taborr a kid, and when he attacks they are immobilised by ropes from a grapple gun.
The Young Jedi arrive and find Taborr, and the two groups agree to help one another, Taborr will get to beat the pirates who humiliated him, and the Jedi will get their artefacts back.
On the Iron Talon, they determine that the Comet Runners have taken the artefacts to Crescent Island so they follow them there and sneak aboard their ship.
The group is caught and thrown in the brig, and called kids once more which enrages Taborr, but the Young Jedi suggest using their status as kids to get the pirates to underestimate them.
Nubs pretends to need the toilet, so a pirate opens the cell to let him out, and they escape. Outside they engage the pirates in combat, but they find they're fairly well balanced, until Taborr suggests swapping targets, and the group reigns supreme.
The leader of the Comet Runners is impressed and asks Taborrs name, which he tells them, telling them to remember it.
Later, they thank Taborr for his help, but he says he doesn't need thanks, he just needed the Comet Runners to know that despite him being a kid, he's great. . .

High Points : While feeling like a number of other Young Jedi Adventures, this is done well, the story keeps moving and the dialogue is well done.
I really enjoyed the idea of Taborr and the Young Jedi taking advantage of being seen as kids to get one over on the pirates who underestimate them due to their age, even though this really just equates to them opening the prison cells door to let Nubs go to the toilet, and then is promptly forgotten about.

Low Points : But this really feels like so many other episodes where Taborr steals something to prove himself to the pirates, and the Young Jedi have to work with him to solve the problem. Although it's never been quite put together in this way, it feels derivative of around 4 other episodes.
Also disappointed that the one good idea in the episode is used once, and then forgotten about, it would have been nice if instead of just swapping targets, they'd used the pirates underestimating them during the final battle.

So what do you really think ? : Given how often he works with the Young Jedi, it's getting difficult to take Taborr seriously as an antagonist, as we know he'll team up with them sooner or later. Apart from that, it's an enjoyable little episode, and doesn't have anything major in it which would put me off.

Final Words : They're introducing a lot of characters recently to replace very similar characters they've used, and possibly redeemed in previous episodes. We had Ozon Nimbee last episode who is pretty indistiguishable from Raxlo, and this episode we've got the Comet Runners, who are basically the pirates from the early episodes (who were redeemed by asking them to attend a party, so decided to turn over a new leaf).

Score : 8/10
