What is it ? : Inside the collapsed clone base, Rex shows everyone that there is a hidden exit, which leads down to the base of the spire the base is built on where he has concealed a ship. It doesn't have a hyperdrive, but it'll allow them to escape.
Outside the Clone Assassin rendezvous with Commander Wolffe and his forces who clear the entrance to the building, and discover the tunnel that Rex has fled through. Wolffe orders his men to block the tunnel, and they'll use their ships to head down to a lower entrance to the spire, but the Clone Assassin rushes inside to follow Rex and his group.
Realising they have been followed, Crosshair engages with the Clone Assassin, and they reach the shuttle as Crosshair catches up having only managed to delay their pursuer.
As they take off, the Assassin fires a rocket and takes out the engines of their ship, which crashes into the jungle. Wolffe warns the Assassin that his actions have endangered their target, before they use their ship to relocate to the crash site.
Rex uses a beacon to contact Echo to come and rescue them, but they need to reach a site he can land at, leading to a running battle through the jungle. Howzer notices that Crosshairs behaviour is different, as he seems to honestly care about Omega and her safety and questions him about it, with Crosshair saying that he used to believe in loyalty, but the Empire didn't. Something Howzer agrees with.
Crosshair and the Clone Assassin enter into a Sniper battle, before Crosshair shoots the Assassins rifle from his hands, but they clash in hand to hand combat, with the Assassin beginning to drown Crosshair in a river, only to be rescued by Howzer who shoots the Assassin, leaving his body to be washed over a massive waterfall.
They reach the rendezvous site, but Wolffe's ship arrives before Echo. Rex addresses Wolffe, who had been told he was dead. He tells him of Tantiss, where his brother clones are being experimented on, but Wolffe tells him he is a soldier of the Empire. Rex then points out that Wolffe's mission is to hunt a child, and Wolffe orders his men to stand down, allowing Rex and the Batch to board the ship when Echo arrives. Wolffe orders his men to collect the bodies of the dead clones for proper burial, and the Clone Assassin is seen climbing out of the water, wounded but not dead.
Aboard the ship, Rex tells Hunter that Omega is a target of the Empire, and they'll be hunted for her, so perhaps they should find out exactly why she is so important to them. . . .
High Points : The best episodes of this season have been the Crosshair ones, and even now he is back with the rest of the team he continues to be the most interesting character, with Hunter and Wrecker barely doing anything this episode.
And the highlight of that for me is the sniper battle, while I would like it to have been more of a feature, it's a solid piece of the story with the Assassin and Crosshair hiding, and catching glimpses of the other to take shots. Instead of a straight forwards firefight, it's a sneaky battle as they manuever for better position on each other.
Low Points : I hoped last episode that the build up in that episode would pay off in this one, but sadly it really doesn't and I'm not sure why this was a two parter story. There's really not enough for two episodes. While it might have been a little packed for a single episode, there's parts which could have been cropped without losing anything story wise. The fight on the staircase in the spire for example is pretty pointless, as it's just a lesser version of the sniper fight in the jungle, and the crashing of the ship likewise is reminiscent of other episodes, so could have been cut with Rex and the Batch just fleeing straight into the Jungle.
So what do you really think ? : A fairly solid episode, although does feel a lot like filler, the revelations about the Assassins last episode wasn't anything much, and Rex advising Hunter to find out WHY the Empire is looking for Omega really seems pretty obvious
While it's nice to see Wolffe back, there's more to find out as we know where he ends up by the time Rebels comes about, so this episode is just a teaser for that.
Final Words : Speaking of Wolffe, I guess it's straight to Tantiss for him, disobeying orders led to Crosshair becoming a prisoner there, so Wolffe seems destined for the same fate.
