What is it ? : Lys Solas and a new Jedi Initiate Myra are out in the wilderness of Tenoo on some new Dunnel steeds that Aree, the Safari Droid, has brought to the Jedi Academy. Returning they are sent on a mission by Aree to track a creature native to Tenoo called a Leepur.
They head back out into the wilderness and find a Leepur, but their presence scares it into a large sinkhole in the surface of the planet. They notice it is trapped, so climb down to help it, but it only scares the creature more, and causes it to put itself in more danger. They eventually help the creature, but they have lost their recording devices so cannot document the Leepur for Aree.
Returning to the Jedi Temple, they report their failure, but their helping of the Leepur has made it curious so it has followed them back, allowing Nubs to capture and image of them with it, completing their mission successfully.
High Points : That although their intentions are good, the fact they still scare the tiny creature, causing it to put itself in more and more danger, is a solid one. There's tension and risk involved, without there being any villain or dangerous monster to fight, the opponent in this episode is actually their own good intentions.
Low Points : It is a low drama episode, for while there's a little risk to the Leepur itself, there's none to Lys or Myra. The most danger they're in, is climbing down after the creature as a storm begins, but there's no really feeling the storm has any effect, there's no rain which makes surfaces in the sinkhole more slick or slippy, gusting winds to blow them around, or even a need to shelter until the storm passes. Once they've saved the Leepur, the storm is just over and done.
And for a show which has messages for it's young viewers, I feel that a clear message should be that you should go home to wait out any storms, and certainly not that you should climb down precarious holes in the middle of a storm.
So what do you really think ? : I'd mentioned that we'd had a lack of returning characters from the previous season, and here we get Aree, returning after 2 or 3 appearances in the first season, which is nice to see him again.
Final Words : Given they introduced a bunch of new younglings already this season, I think it would have been nice if they'd used one of those, rather than introducing a youngling of similar age to Kai, Lys and Nubs, as they really don't give her enough screen time to make her a character in her own right, and she just comes across as a clone of Lys.
