Star Wars: Legacy: 0 1/2: Your Guide to the Legacy Era of Star Wars

What is it ? : Starting at issue 0 1/2 instead of an issue 0, this isn't part of the comic series itself but a general introduction to the Legacy Era.
It starts explaining the state of the galaxy, after the Yuuzhan Vong invasion, when the Vong were defeated, the Galactic Alliance, the replacement for the New Republic, put the Vong Scientists to work reversing the damage they had done to the ecology of various worlds. The Sith took advantage of this to sabotage the work, and cause friction between the Empire and the Alliance.
We then get told that Coruscant is the capital of the Sith Empire, but was partially Vong Formed, so plants live alongside the towering buildings. We get introduced to the Sith Empire and the horde of Darth's that command it, Krayt, Wyyrlok, Talon, Nihl, Maladi, and Strife, as well as being shown their starfighter, the Fury Class.
We get introduced to the Imperial High Moff Council, the members of it, and "The Imperial Mission" an effort to spread the Empire without conflict, where a descendant of Mission Vao works, Astraal. We are shown updated Stormtroopers and Pilots, as well as the vessels of the Empire, the Palleon Class Star Destroyer, Predator Class Fighter, etc.
We are told of the True Empire, headed by Roan Fel, which has Imperial Knights, force using warriors, not Jedi, not Sith, and seen as Grey. The Galactic Alliance is introduced, with it's many ships and starfighters.
Which brings us to the Jedi order, where many decedents of known characters are involved, another decendent of Mission Vao, Shado, as well as Luke Skywalker's descendent Kol, and his son Cade, which leads us onto the Underworld where the protagonists of the series are properly introduced, Cade, Deliah Blue and Jariah Syn, as well as reintroducing Luke and R2-D2.
With the issue finishing with schematics of various vessels.

High Points : Well I'm always a sucker for schematics, and I suppose this is a way of avoiding info dumps as we start the series, so we know the factions already and don't need awkward mentions of names, "Cade climbs into the cockpit of a X-83 TwinTail Starfighter used by the Jedi Order".

Low Points : But it does feel like we're being told a lot of stuff has happened, rather than learning about it more naturally, or seeing it happen. Perhaps that will happen through the series as well, but finding out things like R2-D2 was maintained by the Vong in reverence for Kol Skywalker and hidden away, then given to Cade when he returned to the Jedi Order. But Cade's background doesn't mention him returning to the Jedi order, so is this something which will happen in the series, or is this something which did happen but we've got the details to be revealed?

So what do you really think ? : It's absolutely fine for what it is, but I'd rather have had an issue showing some of these events rather than just being told about them, perhaps this information in story fashion bringing us up to date?

Final Words : I'm a sucker for schematics, so I can't moan too loudly as there are some nice ones in here, but it's not a great start for this series, and it's weird they've got so much to update us with to cover 140 years, but we don't ever get something like this for the Old Republic Era, we just get natural story telling and reveals.

Score : 7/10
