Star Wars: Legacy: 2: Broken Part 2

What is it ? : Seven years later, Wolf Sazen and Shado Vao have gathered some Jedi on Daluuj to discuss finding Cade Skywalker, they believe that only a Skywalker can save the order. But they are attacked by the Sith, and only Wolf and Shado survive.
Elsewhere on the world of Lok, Cade, Jariah Syn and Deliah Blue con and bully their way into a safe house as they are seeking a Sakiyan gambler named Naxy Screeger as a bounty has been put on his head by a pirate named Rav.
However as they raid the safe house a Jedi thinks they've come for him so throws a table at Cade. They take him down and capture Naxy, and negotiate with the owner of the Safe House who is worried that the reputation of it being safe will be ruined if he allows Bounty Hunters to take people away. They point out he owes Rav a debt, and the Empire will be extremely interested if word gets out that he was hiding a Jedi, so he lets them leave.
On Coruscant Darth Krayt has a new apprentice presented to him by Darth Ruyn, to complete her training he asks her if she likes and respects her master Ruyn, which she confirms she does, so he orders her to kill him. She quickly kills her unresisting master, and Krayt asks her if she knows why she was ordered to kill Ruyn. She says no, she merely did it because Krayt desired it, which pleases Krayt who gives her the title of Darth Talon.
He gives her the mission of tracking down the daughter of Roan Fel, the leader of the Fel Empire as since Krayt took the throne Fel has been a thorn in his side, and an attack on his daughter will draw him out as he has been attacking like the Rebel Alliance of old from secret bases.
She travels to Socorro and finds and kills a companion of the Princess, who feels the death through the force and nearly turns back to avenge it, but her companion Astraal Vao convinces her to do her duty and survive. . . .

High Points : Jumping between different elements works as we get the story in play, we've been introduced to the protagonist, that the Jedi are seeking him as he's the last Skywalker, something which has taken on iconic status, and that the Fel Empire is resisting the Sith as once the Rebels did, and the leadership are being tracked down by assassins. Which is all classic Star Wars, we don't get the massive info dumps of the last issue and the storytelling is natural and fast moving.
Something which did impress me was use of classic Star Wars species seen in the Cantina back in a New Hope, especially an Advose and a Sakiyan, which grounded me straight into Star Wars, even if the Sith do seem overloaded with Rodians and Twi'leks.

Low Points : There's nothing bad in the storytelling yet, but one thing I do have to comment on is the style of Cade as presented in this issue. I don't remember him being this 90's surfer dude from when I read through the series originally. While it definitely looks ridiculous and dated now, I think even in the late 00's when the comic was published he would have looked out of date. The mop of hair and chin sprout just looks silly, but I'm pretty sure this becomes a more generic haircut and stubble later on.

So what do you really think ? : I was concerned that this series lacking the sense of humour that Knights of the Old Republic had, was going to be inferior because it took everything too seriously. But so far the action is fast and entertaining, and while it does seem more grim, that isn't a downside so far. A more serious story can definitely work, but we need to see if they balance the action and entertainment that a story needs to have to be Star Wars over the innate grimness of the characters.

Final Words : A solid issue, still building the world, but doing it in a more natural and readable fashion instead of pages of dialogue where people explain to each other things they already knew. A good start, lets see where it goes from here.

Score : 8/10
