What is it ? : Cade and Jariah Syn are on Socorro delivering their bounties to Rav, an ex-pirate who now runs his ship as a base for Bounty Hunters. Cade and Jariah are fighting with Hosk Trey'lis and Naxy Screeger who have worked together to escape, but in the fight Hosk, a Jedi, senses the force in Cade.
They recapture them and deliver them to Rav, he pays them, deducting what they already owe him, and gives Cade some death sticks for a job well done. Jariah berates Cade for using the death sticks, but Cade tells him that if he doesn't like it he can just find another ship. Rav seizes on this to try to get Jariah to rejoin his crew, mentioning how it was Jariah that got him to rescue Cade all those years ago.
As they walk away Jariah speaks to Deliah and comments that Rav makes good points, Cade used to be a good bounty hunter but is now often drugged out on death sticks, and Deliah comments back that it's not Cade's fault, there's just something broken in him.
Meanwhile on the world of Bastion, Roan Fel arrives, and is met by an officer who attempts to place him under arrest by command of Darth Krayt who now sits on the throne of the Empire. Roan gives a speech to the assembled Stormtroopers, and the officer pulls a gun on him to kill him, but is gunned down by the Stormtroopers who declare their loyalty to Fel. As he plans, with Bastion being too well defended for Krayt to move against him without destroying his forces in the effort and thereby losing the Empire, he is told of the attacks on his daughter. He recognises this is an effort to draw him out.
One of his knights offers to take a force to rescue her, but Fel stops him, saying that he cannot allow Krayt to gain the upper hand and control of the situation, which the knight disagrees with, but complies.
Elsewhere the Princess receives information to go to Vendaxa, but is being tracked by Darth Talon.
On board his ship, Cade is taking the death sticks having locked Jariah and Deliah out, and the force ghost of Luke appears to him. They argue, as Luke wants Cade to do better, and Cade wants nothing to do with any kind of Skywalker destiny, finally threatening to kill himself with his blaster if Luke won't go away.
As Luke disappears, Cade makes an excuse to Deliah and Jariah, claiming to have been in the toilet after falling in the sewer chasing the escaped bounties earlier, when they spot 2 people running towards them.
The Princess, Marasiah Fel, and her companion, Astraal Vao, ask for transport off Socorro, and when Cade demands money, Marasiah uses the Jedi Mind Trick on him. It doesn't work, but when he sees Darth Talon approaching on a speeder bike, reminding him of the death of his father, he allows them aboard and they launch escaping from her. Cade asks where they are going, and is told Vendaxa, which Talon scries.
As they fly off, Deliah complains about the passenger taking her room, while not having any money to pay, especially when they appear to be Imperial Missionaries who are being chased by a Sith. But Cade scans Marasiah's identity revealing who she is, and comes up with a plan to get the bounty for returning her to Roan Fel, and they sell their location to the Sith for another bounty, a plan he says means they cannot lose . . . .
High Points : So the parts of the story start to come together, as the Sith are seeking Marasiah, who has taken refuge on Cade's ship. The set up seems to be done, and now we're into the action, and it seems quite interesting, especially just after Cade is told by Luke that he cannot avoid his destiny. So while Cade might seek to gain riches from the situation, it's clear he's going to become more involved in the situation.
Low Points : Even though we're a few issues in I just realised the similarity between Jariah and Deliah's names, and it's annoying me. It would be fine if they were related, or even from a species that has a certain format to their names, but no one's a human and the other is a Zeltron. This is further added to by the Princess being names the similar Marasiah, could the writers not get over "iah" as the ending of a name?
So what do you really think ? : And speaking of Zeltrons, it also just occurred to me that when the Zeltrons were introduced back in the Marvel comics of the 70's / early 80's, they had an attraction to force sensitives. Leia had a group of Zeltron who escorted, protected and aided her, and Luke constantly found himself the centre of attention when he was on their homeworld. So could this be why Deliah Blue is so flirtatious with Cade? Is it a matter of her being drawn to him, which is why she is so forgiving of his treatment and actions? Could this be a plot point they'll build on, so when she discovers that he's a Jedi, she'll realise that her feelings aren't honest, and perhaps hate him because she will feel he manipulated her?
Final Words : I can't help but compare this series to the Kotor comics which came out alongside it which I've reviewed previously, and this feels overly packed with characters early on. Kotor seemed to focus on some core characters far more with it beginning with Zayne's group and Lucien's group, whereas in Legacy we're following the Jedi seeking Cade, Cade's group, the Princess and companion, Roan Fel and his people, and the Sith. And even though it's bringing these groups together, it feels unwieldy at the moment to be keeping track of so many groups and characters within those groups.
