Star Wars: Legacy: 9: Trust Issues Part 1

What is it ? : The Jedi that Cade captured earlier in the series and passed to the Pirate Rav, is now in Sith hands and is being tortured for the location of Cade. He refuses to give in, but eventually yields as he is reminded that Cade handed him over for a bounty. As he tells them about Cade being on Socorro, the torturers, Darth Maladi and Moff Nyna Calixte, talk with Calixte not understanding why Cade is so important until she is told that he is a Skywalker.
She then goes to her ally, Morlish Veed, and reveals she has tracked Cade to The Wheel, and she is going to reactive older Imperial agents that the Sith are unaware of as they will be distracted looking on Socorro.
Meanwhile on Bastion, Roan Fel berates Antares Draco and Ganner Krieg for disobeying his orders and rescuing his daughter, and they submit to whatever punishment he will give out, but he instead gives them medals and awards, because if it became known that his closest allies weren't following orders he would look weak. So instead he's making it look like he was a caring father, a lesser but more understandable weakness. He then sends them to escort an ambassador to The Wheel to meet with the Admiral in charge of the remaining Galactic Alliance fleet to negotiate becoming allies against the Sith.
Later on The Wheel the negotiations happen, but the Galactic Alliance doesn't trust the Empire, as Fel was an ally of the Sith, plus he doesn't really bring anything to the table apart from his forces, and they're operating well enough independently. The ambassador tries to sell them on the idea that Fel didn't know of the Sith actions, but again it doesn't sway the Galactic Alliance, as now he looks easily manipulated. As a final attempt, they reveal that they've taken Bastion, and that does sway the Alliance representative.
Elsewhere on The Wheel, a man searching for Cade is ambushed by a gang who recognise that he's not a local and too well dressed for the area, and he gets in a fight only to be rescued by a woman. Afterwards she identifies herself as another Imperial Agent, but he says he can't take the risk so attacks her, but she knocks him unconscious and carries his body off to discuss it with him when he awakens.

High Points : We're back at The Wheel, a place once run by Simon Greyshade and featured in the early issues of the Marvel series in the late 70's. It's nice to see it not forgotten about, but it's changed in the days from the height of the Empire and now looks a lot more grungy and run down. I'm guessing it's gone from being the one legalised place for gambling and death matches to being one of many, so not as much money runs through the place. But it still seems to be neutral ground where people can meet and make deals.
Oh, and I really liked seeing another Nimbanel, the first since the Marvel series I've seen, when it was Jabba's accountant who pretended to be Jabba in the serialisation of A New Hope.

Low Points : In a series I've already complained was packed with too many main characters and factions, we're introducing more and more. We've got Moff Calixte and Veed, Darth Maladi, the Imperial Agents, the negotiators for the Alliance and Fel Empire. Some of these no doubt are going to be killed off soon, or turn out to be unimportant, but this issue manages to barely feature characters we're familiar with to follow all these others.

So what do you really think ? : While there's elements of this issue I quite enjoyed, it's mainly the elements following already established characters, Roan Fel, Antares Draco and Ganner Krieg, the negotiations are interesting as well. But I really couldn't bring myself to care much about the machinations of Moff Calixte, and the section with the Agents at the end seemed totally pointless.
The actions of these agents are kind of stupid as well, instead of having call signs and meeting places they meet while having a fight. This could have made an interesting story line, about old seasoned agents, out of practice, making mistakes and getting through with their knowledge and experience. But they beat up the gang members, proving themselves to be fantastic warriors, and otherwise just seem inexperienced and unprofessional. But maybe I'm just picking nits.

Final Words : I didn't find much to like in this issue at all, especially considering it's half of this current storyline, Trust issues. Usually the first issue is set up, but this just seems to be a series of events which just happen to be taking place around the location where Cade and the Jedi have gone. I hope the next issue proves me wrong and pulls an interesting storyline out of it's hat.

Score : 7/10
