Star Wars: Legacy: 21: Indomitable, Part 2

What is it ? : We begin with a flashback to the battle of Caamas, as the trap is sprung on Gar Stazi and his forces, and he discovers that Coruscant is about to fall so the Galactic Alliance is lost no matter what happens in this battle, so he orders his fleet to take unreliable and poorly mapped space routes, leading to their escape and journey into exile.
In the current battle, Gar Stazi orders his fleet to attack, which makes no sense to his opponent, as they will be pounded into oblivion between the weapons of the shipyards and the Imperial Fleet.
However he soon realises the shipyard is firing on the Imperial Vessels, as they were meant to discover the sabotage to take control of those weapons, stopping them looking more deeply and discovering the backdoor Stazi had planted in the control system putting them under his control.
At the same time, some of the Imperial troops which have retaken the Advanced Star Destroyer, are revealed as being Alliance Commando's, and return control of the new vessel to Gar Stazi.
A battle rages, with capital ships pounding each other with turbolaser fire, and star fighters skirmishing in between. Stazi's flagship is critically damaged, so he orders it evacuated, taking it towards the ship yards to detonate it's self destruct and cause massive damage to those facilities.
As he plans to go down with his ship, Gar Stazi is rescued by one of his fighter pilots, that knocks him unconscious and evacuates him just in time before the ship detonates taking out a massive section of the shipyard.
The Alliance fleet and the captured advanced star destroyer escape into hyperspace, and Imperial Admiral Valan realises the complete nature of his defeat, so he hands control of his ship to his subordinate, and returns to his quarters where he kills himself with his blaster.
As the Alliance fleet gathers up, Gar Stazi moves his flag to the Advanced Star Destroyer, and orders his people to prepare, as the Sith won't forget this defeat, and will strike back. . . .

High Points : While it was totally expected that Gar Stazi would have a counter plan to the Imperial's counter plan, I did like the way those plans were put into place, with the Imperial Forces reclaiming the Advanced Star Destroyer actually having Alliance teams within them, and the attempt to take control of the shipyards defences, was actually only a distraction. So not a surprise reveal, but nicely done despite that.

Low Points : The whole thing just doesn't stack up well to me, surely to stop the Alliance stealing the Advanced Star Destroyer, the Imperials could just have disabled it's hyperdrive? Of the many thousands of people required to operate a Star Destroyer, how did the Alliance get that many people aboard?
And while it's a bit of a PR success, the amount of people they lost, along with their existing flagship, does seem to make the capture of the Advanced Star Destroyer not the success it is portrayed as.

So what do you really think ? : There's a load of action in here, and it moves along at a brisk pace, with danger and excitement throughout, really feeling tonally very Star Wars'y. But there is so much going on that it's not easy to keep track of what's going on. For example, the Alliance fleet is under heavy fire, when their flagship gets crippled, and we follow the action on the flagship. But when we leave that vessel, the rest of the fleet is just gone. We do see some fighters jumping to Hyperspace afterwards, but the stolen Advanced Star Destroyer and the rest of the Alliance fleet is just gone.

Final Words : As is all to common in Legacy, the stories not involving Cade and his friends are far more interesting, and although I have my criticisms of how this issue was done. I'd definitely rather read story arcs which take the entire narrative forward, than more issues laying out endless backstory as we just had in the previous 6 part story arc.

Score : 8.5/10
