What is it ? : Darth Krayt has come to Dac, as he is angry over the loss of the Advanced Star Destroyer and the victory of the Galactic Alliance fleet. He orders the execution of 10% of all Mon Calimari, and the rest to be put in prison camps, with the slaughter beginning with those in the government of Dac, which is broadcast to the Galaxy.
The Mon Calamari Monia Gahan who helped organise the Alliance victory is being chased by Sith Forces, when some Imperial Knights come to her rescue, they tell her they need to get to Gar Stazi, and their task here on Dac was to sabotage the vessel he just stole. They use the force to steal Darth Azards shuttle, although their leader needs to battle him until they cause an explosion as a distraction and can escape.
Monia leads them back to the fleet, and they pass on the information of the sabotage they performed, and Stazi asks them to tell Roan Fel that he is willing to restart negotiations about an Alliance against their enemy, and in honour the Advanced Star Destroyer will be renamed "The Alliance".
High Points : The slaughter on Dac is pretty impressive, as the Sith and their forces just begin killing everyone around, in an attempt to cause the galaxy to lose all thoughts of rebellion. With the wave of Dark Side energy caused by this, empowering Darth Krayt and allowing him to stave off the harm that the Yuuzhan Vong parasites are doing to his body. It will be interesting if this becomes a further element, that he needs to be more and more destructive to stay alive and functional, in potentially self destructive ways, until even the other Sith are forced to turn on him.
Low Points : I'd mentioned that Darth Azard being a Quarren was potentially interesting because he might have some allegiance to his own people, but that is just thrown away as he kills other Quarren with a casual comment of, "I am not one of you, I am Sith!", even thought no one has been ordered to harm the Quarren, just the Mon Calamari.
When they introduced the idea that Krayt, is also called The Dragon (Krayt Dragon, I get it), he instantly became less interesting to me, and more of a figure of cringe. A guy trying too hard to be cool.
So what do you really think ? : Why was this issue a separate story arc? It's obviously just the epilogue to Indomitable, as it's just wrapping up that story arc. But it is interesting that the side stories are now becoming multi arc stories away from the activities of Cade and his friends. With the original releases being monthly, we've not spent a quarter of a year without Cade's name even being mentioned in a title supposedly about him.
Final Words : This series really can't help itself but keep introducing new characters, even the group of Imperial Knights used to form a bridge between the Galactic Alliance and the Fel Empire aren't ones we've seen before. Why couldn't they have been headed up by Antares Draco or Ganner Krieg, just to link everything together and bring us back towards some characters we've got knowledge of. It would certainly have helped redeem those characters in the eyes of Roan Fel, as they disobeyed him by rescuing Marisiah, and then were involved with the failed previous attempt at an alliance with Gar Stazi, and it would have made a lot of sense for at least one of them to be involved in finally fulfilling that mission. But nope, a bunch of new characters.
