Star Wars: Legacy: 24: Loyalties, Part 2

What is it ? : 4 days later, Cade, Deliah and Jariah are relaxing at the side of a pool with the inhabitants of Rawk's Nest, eating well and dressed in swim wear. Bantha Rawk notices Cade's Sith Tattoo's and asks about them, so they move away from the group to talk, and Cade explains everything that's happened. We discover that Rawk is Cade's uncle and another Skywalker, who tells him of what he knows of Cade's mother.
When the truth is known, the Rawk's are a little annoyed that Cade has brought trouble to their door, and try to convince him to go on the run and into hiding, but news comes in of the slaughter of the Mon Calamari and everyone feels like they should act, but no one has a plan.
That night Cade slips out and grabs a Death Stick, wanting to not feel anything for a while, and Luke and Kol appear to him, but he takes the stick and begins giggling that he has shut them up, when he is attacked by the armoured figure which followed them from Rav's. He is knocked unconscious, but Rawk comes to his rescue, defeating the opponent who is revealed to be Azlyn Rae, a Jedi Apprentice who has been believed dead since the Sith attack on the Jedi Temple on Coruscant.
They all talk, and she reveals she is now also a bounty hunter and when she saw him at Rav's, she had heard that he had gone bad, so followed him, to either hand him in or discover if he was still the man she knew when they were both Jedi.
As they talk, a Star Destroyer arrives, informed of Cade's presence by the survivors of the Black Sun raid on Rawk's Nest, so Cade and his friends hide out while the Imperials search.
They beat Azlyn and Rawk, but Azlyn uses a Jedi Mind Trick to convince the officer that Cade has already left, so the Imperials leave.
Cade emerges and has a plan, to kill Krayt, although it would be easier to do if the Jedi were not scattered, and Rawk reveals there is a hidden temple.
Later when Azlyn is alone on her ship, she contacts the Imperial Knights informing them of the existance of the Hidden Temple, although they doubt her words as they think she might still be loyal to the Jedi., but will deal with that if they find she is not totally loyal to Fel . . .

High Points : The story moves forwards, and we're getting a goal for Cade to complete, to kill Darth Krayt, and it looks as if the story is going to move in that direction while Cade gains allies and forces to help him complete that goal.

Low Points : But seriously, this really doesn't have much of a story to it, it just seems to be a series of surprises. Surprise!, Rawk is a Jedi and a Skywalker at that! Surprise!, Azlyn Rae is another Jedi, and a classmate and romantic interest of Cade! Surprise!, there's a hidden temple of Jedi out there!, Surprise!, Azlyn is working with the Imperial Knights, but they're not sure they can trust her.

So what do you really think ? : And the cast keeps getting bigger, now we've added Rawk and his entire family, Azlyn, and yet more Imperial Knights. The series doesn't seem to know what to do with the characters it's got, never mind adding more and more and more to the cast. We only just got Marisiah popping up again, and haven't heard anything about the Yuuzhan Vong who were on Ossus since around issue 12 (which on a monthly release schedule means a year), were we supposed to think they were important?

Final Words : I can't help but keep comparing this series to the Kotor comics, probably because the two series ran side by side, and I collected them together. But by the end of the very first issue of Kotor, Zayne had a clear goal, he'd been framed for the murder of his classmates by his Jedi Masters and was trying to clear his name! But here we are, at issue 24 (out of 50) and Cade's goal is . . . . to kill the Sith Lord that rules the galaxy!
A nice clear and definite goal, but it's a little massive isn't it? But I suppose we'll see how it goes.

Score : 8/10
